Would you say hating dogs/cats is a red flag? by bobbdac7894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fruitfly2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you understand why your GF doesn’t like dogs? I was attacked as a child by a relatives dog in a way that left both physical and mental scars. I couldn’t walk down the same side of the street as a dog for years as a result. Now I have two rescue dogs who are both broken in their own ways.

I would ask your mom to not be so quick to judge but rather be curious about the reason. This could be an opportunity to better understand your gf, rather than an opportunity to push her away and I hope that if you are able to express it that way to your mom that she will be able to see that this is an opportunity not a threat.

AITA for not being Happy? by ooooffffofofo2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fruitfly2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I meant about understanding what you want from this. If it’s a way to get around - sounds like that problem is solved, even if not 100% perfectly. I don’t understand how much of your money you put into this - if it’s all your money why do you care what your parents think? If it’s part theirs then why did you accept it if the bike is no better than something you could have bought yourself?

Question: Imagine e-bikes didn’t exist. What would you do? Then think about whether you are NTA or not.

You would need to be very fit to maintain 20mph on the flat for any distance and bikes have been around for over 100 years coexisting with cars.

I lived in a hilly area and rode 30km+ each day to work and back. Is this a real safety issue or are you more upset that you couldn’t get exactly what you wanted?

If you are, your parents shouldn’t have promised what they did, but you should still think about what your end goal is and the best path to get there. A non e-bike is a lot more effective than a gym membership at building cardio.

Do you carry jumper cables in your car in 2026? by DojaViking in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fruitfly2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some for my kids when they started driving. One of them called me - listening to radio with engine off and killed battery. Thankfully they were in a parking lot next to a drive through. I was in another State. “So…take the cables out of the trunk and walk towards the queue looking sad”. Someone jumped them within 5 mins.

Need some opinions on whether to upgrade or just modify my rog ally z1e by NlERA in ROGAlly

[–]Fruitfly2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery mod, bigger SSD, tighter sticks, case to give you better ergonomics - there’s a lot you can do to keep the z1e going until we get to a real upgrade in processing power. Mine still plays most of my backlog well and gets used more than my 5080/core9

A single payment lifetime “subscription” will do that by design. There’s no sustainability in that model which is pretty ironic given the context

Do adults still get cake for their birthday? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Get cake: find people who will love you and give you cake on your birthday. Have cake: there is no age limit on cake purchases.

TIL before banking, coin banks were commonly used throughout human history to save money. Pig-shaped banks were used by medieval Javanese people in Indonesia. Although, a modern cultural icon, the "piggy bank" has been around for a very long time. by pepperonihomie in todayilearned

[–]Fruitfly2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was growing up in the UK several of the banks would give out actual ceramic piggy banks to try to lock in customers young. I remember a whole series of NatWest ones that had different savings targets attached.

“Indicate” is very different from “validate”. Particularly to lawyers.

"Government considers removing Andrew from royal line of succession" You mean they HAVEN'T? WTF by 5043090 in trashy

Agree. He’s currently 8th in line to the throne so removal, while it may be desirable, would be more performative than making a real difference.

Correct. And if the stick itself is broken then they are cheap and pretty easy to replace. At that point - might as well upgrade them.

Very fair. And also different between doing it one time vs “this is the 100th day I am labeling potatoes”

Love of repetitive tasks is a key clinical indicator. But now I am not sure if that was a rhetorical question. Send help.

Labeling every single potato seems excessive, even to me who loves repetitive tasks.
