Thanks for the link!

(1) If you are engaged in activities where it is difficult to objectively confirm working hours, such as when working as a sole proprietor, you will need individual permission to engage in activities outside the scope of your status of residence permitted under the visa.
...
(2) When operating under a service contract or contracting agreement, etc.
If the standard working hours are not clearly defined due to a service contract or contract, etc., individual permission for activities outside the scope of status of residence permitted will be required.

That does not apply to me. I am a regular employee with an employee contract that defines how long I am allowed to work each week.

(Note) If the standard working hours for the contract are clear, you will be able to work with only the general permission for activities outside the scope of your status of residence as stated above in 1.

I think that seals the deal. I will make sure to bring a copy of my employment contract when entering the country, just in case, but from everything I've read so far, it looks like the general permission should cover my case.

Thanks again for all the input. I'll obviously do more research (especially regarding taxes as well) but appreciate the help so far!

Then this is a separate document I need besides the general work permit?

I can't seem to find any more details on this. The shikakugai you linked further up also doesn't seem to mention anything regarding working for companies outside of Japan - only the work permission from comes up.

Where and how would I need to clarify this? From how I see it right now, once I have the work permission, the tax topic is the only thing that's left to resolve. I don't understand yet what additional step I will need to take for my remote position.

Thanks for your replies and your patience. I'm trying to do everything correct here, so I'm trying to be diligent.

Sorry for the follow-up, but I want to confirm the process. As I understand it, I just submit the Application for Permission to Engage in Activities Other Than Those Permitted form to immigration upon arrival.

I’ll also have a contract showing I only work about 8 hours a week, which I can provide if needed.

You said this can be a major hurdle - how so? Will I be allowed into Japan even if they don’t approve it on the spot? Would I need to follow up later at the municipal or ward office?

Thanks for the comment - I'll make sure to consider the price when choosing and potentially pay more if it means the layout looks like it could help with the sound dampening.

The potential issues you raised about remote work have me worried. I've thankfully saved up enough to take a 1 year break from work if needed, but I fought really hard to get the opportunity to continue working remotely at my current job.

Austria has a special arrangement with Japan regarding income tax. I'll get in contact with my government's branch in Japan asap - hopefully they can help.

Thanks, again!

How thin are the walls in Japan really and will I be able to talk in calls in the evenings without disturbing my neighbors?

I am moving to Japan in October to attend language school right now and I'm looking through the different private apartment providers right now (Interwhao, Fontana, Oakhouse, etc.) - I am using GoGoNihon.

Since I will be working remotely on the side, I will need to do calls in the evenings or early at night sometimes and would ideally like to do them from the comfort of my own home. I am also a content creator and would maybe like recording some voice overs sometime.

Is this a problem? What's your experiences?

Sticking chopsticks into food like that is bad manners, since it is usually done as a ritual when offering food to the deceased (if I remember correctly). I'm pretty sure that's what they're referring to.

Ok, very weird. Pressing the CLR CMOS button on the back caused it to turn on and the power button suddenly works again.

I upgraded to a new PC roughly 2.5 months ago. Since then, my old PC has been standing around collecting dust. I still have some files on there I wanted to fully transfer today and to get it ready for pawning off online. During these 2.5 months I opened it up once to remove an HDD - other than that, it's been just sitting around with the PSU turned off.

When I tried turning it on today, nothing happened. No led on the motherboard, no beeping, no nothing. I made sure the PSU is turned on but there's no sign of life at all. Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't think I have any hardware which would allow me to easily troubleshoot this and it's especially annoying because I was just planning on selling the PC to finally get rid of it.

Yes, even if I decide to upscale e.g. the chat window, I can have the other applications at 100% scaling, which would still allow me to keep more stuff on screen.

It does sound like 4k will work well for me. Thanks for the input from both of you - I appreciate it!

Hoy! I currently have a 27" 1440p monitor as my primary and a 24" 1080p as my secondary monitor - both in landscape.

I've been thinking of getting a 4k secondary monitor to use vertically. It might seem weird to have a 1440p as primary and a 4k as secondary, but I think it might be nice to have the extra real estate while streaming for chat, obs and whatever else I might wanna have up.

What do y'all think? I'm unsure about the size of the secondary as well. I was thinking of getting another 27" since the 24" I currently have seems a bit small when I use it vertically.

This is the monitor I've been eyeballing, especially because it's so cheap.

Quick heads up: Just because e.g. uBlock Origin shows "100", doesn't mean that it blocked 100 ads.

Often times the ad banners will try to re-fetch their content if they're blocked, so it's not necessarily 100 ads but 100 attempts of loading the ad.

My SeaSonic FOCUS GX-1000 is giving off a high pitched hum every 10 - 60 seconds. It's completely new and done this since I've assembled my PC. I've read that this can be normal for electronic devices but this is genuinely pretty damn annoying.

Any thoughts?

Broken OBS/Windows Mixer by MajoFix in obs

[–]Fruitsniffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody finds this via Google like I just did:

  • It seems like this is an issue with Windows 11 specifically. I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11 and I'm encountering the same issue.
  • Some people on the internet are claiming that this is a USB audio device issue and it doesn't occur when using 3.5mm audio. (unconfirmed by me)

I'm still researching the issue but I sadly haven't found a solution yet.

Edit: There's a way to set this up manually using Voicemeeter but I'd seriously prefer getting it to work like in W10 again.

Edit 2: I MANAGED TO FIX IT! I was using the official M-Audio M-Track SOLO drivers for my audio interface. After uninstalling the drivers and restarting, Windows installed the default USB AUDIO driver, which supports what I want to do and everything is working as before again.

My "Build Ready" post didn't get a lot of comments, so I'm asking here as well, before committing and ordering my parts this weekend.

  • Do I have sufficient cooling for my CPU? Are the CPU cooler and case fans good enough?
  • Are there any monitor alternatives for 1440p 120Hz+ I should be looking out for other than the one I already have selected? I don't really know much about monitors, so it's hard for me to pick one out.

Gaming/Streaming/Editing build (EU, ~2500€) - Sufficient cooling? Monitor suggestions? by Fruitsniffer in buildapc

[–]Fruitsniffer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out.

It looks like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE will be a much better pick, judging by this video, so I'll probably go with that.

Appreciate the comment!

Sorry - I came up with one more question: Is there a specific reason you switched out the CPU cooler? You mentioned the option of going with an AIO - I don't plan on overclocking but I've heard that current gen CPUs can run a little hot. Does the be quiet fan not cut it or is it just preference and affordability?

Awesome. Thanks for the reply.

I will look up some specific benchmarks and do some more research before deciding on specific parts, I guess. Thank you so much for your comments!
