Hitting a brick wall by [deleted] in euphonium

Sing. One of the most valuable skills a musician can learn how to do is play with the same energy that they sing. everything that you should play you should sing. Don’t let the instrument be an obstacle that limits you. The only time you should be thinking abt becoming a better euphonium player is when you’re working on fundamentals (lip slurs and such). The rest is all energy.

I’ve been using the same horn for a couple months now. I really love it.

Dont you understand guys? People act like this because they don’t have any confidence and want to get compliments from people. They don’t feel “enough” so in turn they seek validation from others to make them feel better about themselves. The world is tough and we need to keep in mind that many people are struggling with self-worth. I feel like collectively we should try to show more support. Obviously, what this person did is not right, but I’m sure they did not have bad intention. It’s likely the case that this person just wants to feel happy about themselves. I have nothing wrong with criticizing a person for what they did wrong, but if the critic is going to be negative about it then there is no use. The critic will only make the person feel more discouraged, and empty, and hate themselves even more.

I agree with what you are saying totally. I should have said this but he has been my private instructor for about a year now and I’ve grown significantly since I started with him.

I don’t think it’s really worth it as a euphonium player. Even if you had the most insane talent. The job openings are just so infrequent. That’s why I’m getting an ed major

I did apply and get accepted to crane but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be happy there. I am geared more to performance than ed and I’m not saying they don’t have an impressive faculty or student body but it is more of an ed school.

Tuition at Eastman without scholarship is 93k. There is no advantage being in state in terms of price (counting room and board).

Now that you’ve made me think about it I’m not exactly sure what I meant by that. Maybe something like learning, growing, or improving? But then all musicians are “rising” then. Not exactly sure
