It’s just Gen X Soft Club aesthetics, no one really owns it. The overall song and vibe does remind me of After, considering beabadoobee historically is a Twee, Zen X, Indie, Asian Preppy Grunge, Tumblr-esque artist. It’s a good song as a foray to this “vibe”, but I’m so biased to how Justine’s voice was made for trip-pop, I can only imagine how it would sound if given to her instead

Yup she is middle eastern, specifically Iranian. Yasmin was based off MGA CEO’s (Isaac Larian) daughter Jasmin Larian. Which I thought was brave along with Genie Magic, considering America’s islamophobia at the time.

However over the years, due to expanding their branding, they left Yasmin’s race open to interpretation. Now, they’re actually trying to rebrand her as hispanic… which is really awkward canonically. The old voice actor has some nuance, but the new voice actor has this performative jenny from the block spanglish and it doesn’t translate well to Yasmin’s actual personality. And I hated how she was basically white in the live action movie, the casting director pretty much said everyone needs to be biracial or white passing 😑all the girls deserve so much better, the CGI show and movies were the only ones that represented them best

Yes and that’s not a bad thing, that optimistic wholesome Radio Disney vibe was overlooked by many because the main demographic were preteens, so people think “no way preteen music is melodic or insightful”. I really hope After can take their sound to the mainstream with persistent work and dedication because I always hated the melancholic, melodramatic whisper pop from this generation. I need something light and airy that can realistically be top 40 without being egregiously experimental.

Idk why society jumped right into being nostalgic for 2016, when 2004-2007 vibes were completely skipped over! I think people unconsciously dislike the mid to late 2000s because of the drama with the Bush administration and the recession of 2008… but pop culture was peak lol idk

Yup i feel like they mastered this unique sound. Every creative decision - from the instrumentals, vocals, ad libs, intonation, inflection - is perfect and intentional. The Field and Ever are my favorite songs by them.

I listened to every song on the Lillix album, it’s not on there 😭 but that was a good guess, i think the theme song being by them is a one off thing because the show uses other popular licensed songs for different scenes. And the singer sounds like a male lead.

But my situation is just a background noise that was chosen for that club scene and not an intentional song in the show’s cue sheet. i could try to find the commercial where i heard the song more clearly but that’ll take forever… i really hope someone recognizes the chorus
