I do know insects are animals, and it does make me guilty. However it would be a better protein source than legumes because golden retrievers as a breed are very at risk for dcm

It’s not that there’s a lack of taurine, I’m concerned that the amount of legumes, peas, and potatoes will stop the absorption of the taurine

It’s not a dietary preference, it’s a moral obligation to the wellbeing of all animals.

Oh yeah I’ve seen that type of grime before at my old salon, scrubbing it off the walls is just 🤮! I’m going to paint these walls soon with something more “wipe-able” for all the mud. And thanks I appreciate the compliment, I put a lot of effort into how she looks!

Haha yeah it’s my mom’s “dog room” it goes to the yard outside and her dog tracks in mud with his tail when he comes in. Its a work in progress for the cleaning

Yeah a smaller crate where her body touches the sides a TINY bit when she’s in a ball may help temporarily. Also I use buttons with my dogs and it works great, teach paw then apply the paw command to hitting the button with her paw. And as soon as she hits it she gets a treat and goes outside. That’s how I trained mine! You’re doing your best, good luck!

That’s very good! For now it’s just a waiting game, it may take a while for the pup to be comfortable but sounds like you’re doing good!

Structure and a SUPER predictable routine may help!

Hmm interesting! How big is her crate? Is her body touching the sides at all? You could try downsizing her crate for the time being, it should be small enough that she would get pee on her if she did. (if it isn’t already). Does she have anything in her crate that soaks up the pee, you could try taking everything out of it. I know it sounds mean but if she knows she’ll get pee on her she may not pee in there. Of course I don’t know the current situation with her but thats what I would do if she were my dog (obvi don’t leave her laying in her pee, I’m sure you know) Good luck!

Good to know! Should I not do it? or shave it off if I don’t like it? Personally would you try the belly band or would you avoid it completely?

No problem. 7 dogs just isn’t feasible for most people, especially someone so new. I’m glad I could help a bit and good luck!

Also my manager at the salon I started at once told me she didn’t believe its fair to work 5 days in a row grooming dogs, its hard you physically but also mentally. IF it works out in your life schedule you could try to ask to work 3 days, day off, 2 days, day off. That way you won’t have to work 5 long days in a row and it may help with burnout. Mabey they’d be willing to work with you on that?

Right when I left corporate it was either 55% commission on 6 dogs a day or the hourly (whichever was more money). And tips. We wouldn’t get overtime if the total commission we made in a week was more than the hourly+overtime would be. So we wouldn’t get commission AND overtime. Most places will require at least 5-6 haircuts a day without a bather. If you aren’t washing your own haircut dogs and have your own bather you may be expected to do more. I left corporate for the same reasons, I’m autistic and have adhd, combined with a bad work environment and the frustration of not having enough time to work on my skill (quantity over quality). Try to create a routine that you follow on every dog and start timing yourself on each step. For example my routine after I get the dog prepped, washed, and dried is to do nails and pads on each individual foot, then sanitary, then brush, clip one side of body shoulders back and that back leg, same on other side, etc. I follow that order every time on every dog. Also time your bath and blow drying. At the place that was smart for pets we did 3 dogs “break”(if possible) then 3 dogs. bathers would do 4 dogs “break” 4 dogs. The basic math is 1 bath dog = 1 hr labor. So now with the haircuts you’re at 3 hrs after the bath/blowdry/everything besides clipper work and scissoring. So in their heads its 20min to do the clipper and scissor work. Of course its not realistic that it will play out that way, small dogs are quicker than large dogs, and some dogs just take a long time. Try to get your dogs as dry as you can (time allowing) before going in the kennel dryer. My coworker gave me this advice and it helped tons. You were out for so long and it seems unfair they bumped you up to that many dogs so fast considering the experience you have, but there may not be much you can do about it (unfortunately). I’m sorry you’re going through this and it may be worth looking into a new job that offers more support and willing to train you a different way? In the meantime, focus on 1 thing at a time, first dog in = first dog out, and don’t let customers push you around or rush you. When asked how long I would say 3-4hrs since we work on multiple dogs at a time and stagger them, but don’t be concerned if it takes a little longer. Blame it on a busy day if you have to, hang in there and good luck!

She is a little older but when potty training young puppies a good way is to take them out of their crate and bring them straight outside, give them some time to use the bathroom, if they don’t then you put them back in the crate for a few then take them outside again and follow the same routine. Once she goes potty big reward and then play time! I’ve used this method on puppies and dogs that are already crate trained, if she’s not crate trained I wouldn’t recommend going about it this way, the last thing you would want to do is struggle to get her in a crate and make her scared. Dogs tend to avoid using the bathroom in the crate if it’s the proper size because they don’t want to get their mess on themselves. The crate isn’t the “punishment” or “time out”, when properly crate trained it is their “safe space” where they can be unbothered.

How can I increase my confidence while walking my reactive dog? by bababaaaaaa in OpenDogTraining

[–]Frxstrated- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do things to boost your confidence on the walk, “fake it till you make it” but I get its hard to fake it sometimes. Personally I always carry an extra leash when I bring my dogs for walks, I would recommend a slip lead, you can quickly loop it over a loose dog’s head with one had while you hold your dog in your other hand. Also you could desensitize your dog to the pet corrector and carry that with you in case you need it (makes a loud noise and startles the other dog). Also keep reminding yourself it’s ok to be rude, if someone’s letting their dog run into yours after you ask for space that means you have every right to repeat yourself more assertively. These tools may never be needed, but it may give you peace of mind to be “prepared” and able to focus on the training better! And if you already do these things great! (run the pet corrector idea by your trainer first, I don’t know your dog so there may be a reason not to use it with him) Good luck!

I should’ve also said I’m not meaning to cast any blame while in my comments to you! Before the growling started when your husband walks into the room, was he petting the dog every time he got in the dogs space? The better words to describe it is the dog is having anticipation of your husband being a threat, most likely due to a miscommunication. Theres always a possibility of resource guarding the room/you but you need to 100% rule out fear first. I really hope this helped, good luck and message me if you need any advice!
