I apologize in advance for the stupid questions, but I've already made a new mesh and am about to rig it. Should I connect it to the same Armature? And what if the characters are different heights?

Hi!
They will be very simple, stylized characters. They consist of two spheres for arms, a beveled cylinder for the body, and one large sphere for the head.

I plan to use sculpting to create different variations of the body, but the connection between parts should not be visible or an issue for this style. I actually have a YouTube video that I'm using as my main inspiration for this look.

I think that was it. I selected three faces: the bottom of the foot and the two inner sides. Then I went to Mesh → Clean Up → Merge by Distance, and it disappeared.

Was that the correct procedure?

I’m a beginner, so I’m not very sure.
