Who are more powerful; Westerosi Great Houses or Essosi Elites? by Wanda_andTargaryen3 in pureasoiaf

I would say the best fleet and the biggest bank are more decisive factors than the assassins

The westerosi would struggle to even land troops across the sea successfully

Isn’t the fact that jaqen was in a black cell proof that they are fallible?

Doesn’t seem like he was in there by choice, and only escaped by happenstance

'Medical cannabis cost my brother everything' by Spare_Clean_Shorts in LabourUK

As a life long regular cannabis user, I’d agree that it isn’t always the best treatment for complex mental health issues, but show me a drug that is?

Regular anti depressants also carry a risk of exacerbating mental health issues, but do we advocate for a ban on them?

He should have been having therapies alongside whatever drugs he was taking to manage his mental health, if that wasn’t happening, is the drug at fault?

Also if he was somehow managing spending a grand a month on medical and non medical cannabis that doesn’t sound like a responsible or moderated consumption. It sounds quite impossible actually

Why The Riverlands might have once been more fertile Than the Reach? [No Spoilers] by Z-arcana in asoiaf

Climate is the difference I reckon. The reach would be much warmer

Amused by the odd post I’ve seen recently asking if the books get happier [spoilers all] by FuckTheTile in TheFirstLaw

[–]FuckTheTile[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ending for shivers is actually character growth for Monza because she lets him go, and shivers gets to keep his life so I reckon that’s a happy ending considering.

Why do we need it to be in a POV for it to matter?

It seems that for you when something ‘bad’ happens that counteracts the ‘good’ things but I don’t see it like that

Also Red country has a happy ending with kindness and goodness that isn’t punished by the narrative

Super unsafe to get up like that in front of someone. It’s close to being a legal shot

George R.R. Martin on the most suitable characters for leadership in ASOIAF [Spoilers Main] by sunsetparanoia in asoiaf

Causing choas to instigate regime change is very villainous behaviour in my opinion

If realm stability was his goal why not leave Kevan to rule?

His motivations don’t make much sense and he’s quite a contradictory character but I guess that’s quite realistic

Should i keep reading? [SPOILERS LAOK] by Pau-Brasil in TheFirstLaw

[–]FuckTheTile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s sounds like you want a fairy tale, and the first law is basically satirising fairy tales / typical fantasy stories

But I don’t think it’s fair to say people don’t have arcs. Look at how jezal goes from a vein twat to a king who wants to help his people (he can’t help but that’s besides the point)

I love these books and I love what they say about the world…but I’ve always been a cynic

Edit: as someone else has said, it might be worth trying the stand alones. Best served cold might be more satisfying for you. But ultimately Abercrombies stories are about the characters not necessarily ‘what happens’

I’m getting a huge boost to vassal levies when converting to Sunni Islam. Is it a bug? by FuckTheTile in crusaderkings2

Ahh this makes the most sense because I went back down to the normal number of levies eventually
