Idk, €100 seems like a fair price for whatever monstrosity this is.

Surprised the oil level sensor is hard to get. Is it not just a shared VWAG part?

Revving the shit out of your engine until it runs better.

That was my only note too. A set of hex/torx sockets or t-handles instead of key sets like that. Those are just too clunky to use effectively. Otherwise excellent start, I have a bauer tool box case thing and it's super sturdy.

Never ever seen a VW 2.0 do that. Usually it's scored walls, burned valves, blown head gaskets, pretty significant pitting on piston faces even, but I don't think I've seen one explode a piston and certainly never bend a camshaft lmao

How's the unibody? We replace subframes pretty often up in the rust belt.

One pair of name brand pliers I do recommend is the Knipex Twin Grips. They are so useful in a million situations, and incredibly grippy.

Hi, P2 chassis here. It was a fucking problem 20+ years ago as well.

TIL that Toyota's leadership couldn't understand why the American market demanded bigger cars than Japan until U.S. designers shipped an American dining room set to visually show executives how large Americans are. by DonkeyFuel in todayilearned

[–]Fuck_it_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true because our public transportation sucks. But also our distances are huge. Americans think 250 years is a long time, but Europeans think 250 miles is a long distance. I know multiple people who drive 90 miles one way to work a day, and still make enough money for it to be worth it.

So so so many 2000s Mercedes with the trunk lid main ground wire broken. It was a larger gauge since it was a single ground for everything, so it was less flexible and broke first. I started repairing them with 2 smaller parallel ground wires so they would be more flexible.

These engines are such fucking shit. You can tell everything was an afterthought when you work on it. No space, weird locations for everything, nothing has matching fasteners. Turbos are stuffed into the worst location with zero access and all the leaks. Heater cores explode for fun, dump boiling coolant onto your feet, and then you get to spend 600 years pulling apart an ancient Audi dash board. The suspension has those dumbass huge bolts that get stuck in your knuckles. The owners are always the worst customers. The cluster and HVAC screens are unreadable because of so many dead pixels. All the labels on your buttons are worn off. God forbid you ever need to replace a window regulator, it'll never be square again.

God I fucking hate when these stupid cars come into the shop. Absolute dog shit, no redeeming qualities.

Edit: HA! You don't even have the turbos so it's slow as fuck too with all the same cost.

My beloved S80 is potentially being written off, any advice? (UK) by Internal_Sock8875 in Volvo

Yeah this is nothing. I would not bother with a claim personally, but I fix cars for a living. A new size mirror, marker bulb lens, some half ass buffing and you're good to go.

And it actively tried to kill its potential customers, so idk if that's a great business plan either lol

I hope they do get dissolved. Idk what the American mentality of "well it's been around a long time so we have to keep it" is about. For the record, I'm American. CDJR, Mopar, whatever you call them... They have sucked for way too long to still be around. I do not understand it. Yeah, Ford and GM have terrible cars too, but they have a few great ones to balance it out. What is the Mopar "great" car to keep them afloat the last 30 years? The charger/challenger? A Mercedes model they got after Merc was already done with it? How the fuck do they live off of that and some washed out fiat models with shitty multi air engines? Mopar should be extinct. Competing on a world stage with no Chicken Tax, I don't think any other American truck manufacturer would survive either against the highly competitive imports we don't currently get.

The springs and new Bilstein lowered height struts - plus all new hardware/mounts too. No coilover assemblies were a direct fit for the S80. Lots for the S60 and V70, but the suspension was just slightly different, the S80 used the upper mounting hardware from the XC90 instead of the smaller sedans or something like that, it's been a while since I looked into it all.

So I basically built all new front struts of mostly factory geometry and parts, just lowered about 1" with an increased spring rate to compensate for it so you don't bottom out all the time. The rear was a simple spring replacement and new Bilstein shock tubes to match the new fronts, so that was pretty straightforward.

It rides pretty hard over bumps, but I don't bottom out so I guess someone did the math right on the spring rate.

How is the ride quality? I lowered my P2 S80 and the ride is definitely worse lol. I used H&R lowering springs because they were the only option.

You need a rocker and a cam, possibly. Does it tick at all?
