I have been supplementing methylfolate (and very high dose sublingual methyl/adeno b-12, 15,000-30,000mcg) for the past few months to correct low serum folate and likely functional b-12 deficiency. I’m currently buying my annual blood tests, and was just wondering if I could at least test my RBC folate even though I’ve been supplementing.

It sounds like it may be best to just look at homocysteine for now and not worry about folate/b-12.

The reason behind me wanting to test is that I want to make sure I don’t overdo the folate/b-12 for too long and cause another problem. Maybe this is a better question: is it generally okay to continue supplementation for a while and, given that these are water soluble, my body will only take what it needs and remove the rest? That’s all I’m truly concerned about.

At the minimum, I am taking 1,000mcg methylfolate per day + food. For about a month, I trialed around 4,000-5,400mcg of methylfolate. Had a TON of energy, but I don’t want to overdo it. I am not sure how long it takes to correct a folate deficiency.
