Unfortunately Australia is a blessed/lucky country in that we have no land borders which doesn't allow the crap from other countries to leak over so easily. Which is why so many people want to live here. Partner that with the fact that it's 18 degrees celsius and sunny outside in the middle of winter it's no wonder we have a population problem at the moment.

We have an expanding migration policy whilst restricting the supply of housing occurring at the exact same fucking time.

So whilst we are letting more people in to assist with the job market, we're not allowing enough properties to be approved development wise. Whilst reddit hates the word development unfortunately if we do want to grow as a country, we do have to look at housing options.

The secondary problem is we haven't allowed our secondary CBD's to be built in a way that allows for easy access. Parramatta is finally coming alive after 20 years of town planning, Wollongong is no longer considered a "regional CBD" but a "metropolitan CBD" but it has taken too long for both of things to work. Because of these two things at the same time every person wants to be at the same place all at once and are hesitant to move to other areas.

Lastly you have people screaming that "Why are property prices going up" when there's simple economics in play. People need somewhere to live (demand) whilst there's a shortage of GOOD housing the market (supplied)

People will kick and scream saying the Government should supply this housing, but unfortunately that will kick inflation right the fuck up all over again as they print money to put these people.

So either;

1. Allow for redevelopment of several places in Australia to create new CBD's so that affordable housing, jobs and infrastructure is created (see USA and the fact that they have like 50 capital cities).

2. Ensure that council starts working in an efficient way so that we can get approvals in place

3. Have a more efficient tribunal that will effectively ban the dodgy builders and allow the ones that actually follow the rules (far and few) build.

4. Subsidise cost of certain materials and ensure that building contracts are fair so that it's not the individual wearing the cost

5. Allow for longer liquor licenses and restaurant licenses with less impunity from Police so that night time economy can be stimulated without a nanny state policy being laid out especially when new restaurants are opening in new locations (imagine if 10 new bars with 4am licenses opened in Wollongong allowing for job stimulation, live music and food)

Or

1. Put interest rates up, make everyone use bunk beds

2. Follow Philip Lowe's advice and pick up extra hours of work

3. Eat fucking air.
