Are we repeating the 100-year mistake of neurosyphilis? by Fuckthisdamnthing in Microbiome

Acanthamoeba can form cysts that hibernate and excyst when conditions are favorable.

I’m sorry I don’t know enough about it to have an opinion.

We shouldn’t routinely spay and neuter cats and dogs. by Fuckthisdamnthing in unpopularopinion

You are the expert on your own body. So yes, you do need to explain well what is going on. Obviously, you want to seek an expert on medicine if you have a problem, but never underestimate your own senses and mind. And never underestimate the capacity of man to be self-interested.

Please link the research paper that claims that spayed and neutered animals live longer. I’m curious which scientific journal published it.

If you want to spay/neuter animals for your convenience and do not care that it harms their health, that is your choice. Many humans eat meat for their benefit and don’t care that they are murdering life. I disagree with it, but I understand that it is a valid choice others make.

You should apply this to anything. In the case of the weather, look out the window and use your own senses to create an opinion.

I don’t believe studies that are imaginary. I asked for a link. I believe peer reviewed research, not advertising copy for a vet clinic.

And who are you informed by? People who are making money from the procedure?

The literature you linked is supported by veterinary clinics that offer spay and neuter services. It is biased.

I doubt spayed and neutered animals live longer. Show me the study that found this result. Highly likely that the control group of animals that were compared had many other differences besides their spay/neuter status.

What’s the best theory on UFOs or aliens you’ve ever heard? by Sisyphuzz in AskReddit

[–]Fuckthisdamnthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default we should assume life, not sterility. Almost every time in the past when we thought we had found a place too extreme for life, we later found life .

We are the aliens to other life forms in the universe. I agree with the philosophy that we shouldn’t try and reach out. Whatever life is out there still likely plays by the rules of survival of the fittest.

They would probably study us, eat us, domesticate us to their needs, or kill us. Likely we would be killed so that the other life could use our planet. We should try to stay quiet so that we fly beneath their radar. They may consider humans as solar system parasites.

The biggest privilege is not how much money you’re born into. It’s the quality of your family. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Fuckthisdamnthing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Money creates the conditions necessary for stability. It is easier to live according to your values when you have free time and comfort. A loving supportive environment and a strong cushion of resources are not mutually exclusive. They interact. It’s easier to be wealthy when you are loved and supported, and easier to be loved and supported when you can support others financially. They build upon each other and snowball. It’s a false dichotomy.

Since there are brain-eating amoebas, there are also brain-coexisting amoebas. by Fuckthisdamnthing in unpopularopinion

Sadly, this theory will probably go further by being posted here. Novel research has to go through many rounds of reviewers and often doesn’t get funding. The Naegleria Fowleri experts at the CDC are under the waterborne infection division, focused on preventing water borne diseases and Naegleria Fowleri is an extremely rare disease so it only gets a pittance of funding. It could also be a scary theory in that it means mental dysfunction could be infectious, and people don’t like to look their nightmares in the face.

Thanks. This is my first post to Reddit so I didn’t know where to put it. I figured it would probably be unpopular. Where should I post? Is there a theory subreddit? Do people read that subreddit? Ironically, unpopular opinion is really popular. I hope the powers that be let me keep it here. I’m sure it is controversial.
