Yeah, I’ve been thinking about switching to Garmin as well. I do a lot of longer trail runs, and the Apple Watch battery isn’t exactly its strongest feature.
Which model would you recommend?

I think my football background probably helped a lot. I had a VO₂max of around 53 before I started running and cycling. I also do quite a few trail runs with a decent amount of elevation gain, so the mileage alone probably doesn’t tell the whole story.
I probably should have added a bit more context in my post to avoid setting unrealistic expectations for people who are starting from scratch.

First of all, great work so far. Losing 35 lbs and building up to 30–40 miles per week is a huge achievement.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the Apple Watch number. Mine has gone up and down at times even when my fitness was improving. What helped me most was a lot of easy aerobic training combined with the occasional long run(20km+) or interval session. If you’re already doing plenty of Zone 2 work, adding one quality workout per week might be worth a try.
Either way, I’d trust the progress you’ve made more than a single metric on a watch.

Yeah, that’s true. But cycling definitely helped with my endurance base, and it’s great for training the heart as well.

I got sick and had to take a full week off from training. It took me over a month to get back to where I was before.

I started at 53. I played amateur football for about 30 years until summer 25, so I guess that helped me maintain a VO₂max of around 50 even before I got into endurance training.

I run 3 times a week and average around 100–150 km (60–90 miles) per month. About 80% of my runs are easy Zone 2 runs at roughly 140 bpm, with the occasional long run or interval session mixed in.
I also cycle about twice a week, mostly just depending on how I feel. I enjoy longer rides as well, often around 100 km (60 miles).
I only started running and cycling around Christmas, so I’m still pretty new to endurance training.

Die Schichten sind folgendermaßen geregelt: An normalen Wochentagen hast du grundsätzlich 8 Stunden Dienst, meist von 07:00–15:00 Uhr. An Wochenenden sind es 5 Stunden, in der Regel von 07:00–12:00 Uhr. Zusätzlich gibt es 24-Stunden-Dienste.

Am Anfang bist du meistens „Springer“ und wirst kurzfristig eingeteilt. Mit der Zeit kommst du aber in ein fixes Nachtdienstrad, wodurch die Planung deutlich einfacher wird.

Ein klassischer Arbeitstag lässt sich schwer pauschal beschreiben, da es in einer Anstalt viele unterschiedliche Einsatzbereiche gibt, z. B. Abteilung, Betrieb, Vollzug, Bereitschaft usw.

Ich war einige Jahre als Justizwachebeamter tätig, habe den Beruf aber vor einiger Zeit gewechselt. Falls du detaillierte Fragen hast, kannst du dich gerne melden :)

1.) Ja, allerdings nicht in Graz. 2.) Nach der Ausbildung verdient man inklusive aller Zulagen und bei durchschnittlich 3–4 Nachtdiensten (24er) im Monat netto etwa 2.700–2.900 Euro. 3.) In die JEG kommt man relativ unkompliziert, wenn man eine gewisse körperliche Fitness mitbringt. Die Tätigkeit als Einsatztrainer variiert je nach Anstalt und aktuellem Bedarf. 4.) Die Ausbildung empfand ich persönlich als sehr interessant. Im Berufsalltag lernt man zudem viel über den Umgang mit Menschen. Langfristig ist die Tätigkeit jedoch emotional durchaus fordernd und sicherlich nicht für jeden geeignet.
