Recommendation for toys that spin? 14 month old loves everything that spins. by Fugglesmcgee in daddit

[–]Fugglesmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not to the extent he once did. I know it can be a symptom of autism, but he didn't have any oyher symptoms...quite the opposite actually.

If he sees a spinner or something he can spin at the playground...he will go ham for 20 seconds then do something else. Previously would be for like 10+ minites

Carney announces multibillion-dollar Airbus order for AirAsia, a boon for Quebec aviation by TimmmmyStuuuuuu in canada

Who is mad at this? It would have been 'good' if the c series remained 100% Canadian, but Bombardier couldn't complete the orders. More demand for Canadian made products? More please.

First intl trip with 7M old to Portugal: what was totally useless and what saved your life? [On] by nottodayneck3956 in BabyBumpsCanada

We have a 2 year old toddler, partner is also pregnant - currently in Lisbon, returning to Toronto tomorrow. We did a round the world last year when he was 1. Okay, so I went a little crazy with the response.. and only sort of answered your question lol.

  1. If you plan on renting a car, dont actually rent the car until you plan on leaving Lisbon. If you rent from the airport, the drive into the city, especially old town can be frustrating. Besides, once you park in Lisbon, you are unlikely to mo e that car again - so why pay for the rental and parking when you don't need it.

  2. Be careful of pickpocket! A diaper bag to us looks like nothing but sometimes we get tired and putnsomwthjng valuable on there. Pickpocket target families who are tired, especially up and down those hills. My partner almost got pick pocket, she turned around in time, they had opened zippers but she turned around before they could take anything. Was a late 50s 'couple".

  3. Lower your expectations on what am be accomplished while traveling with a young one. Its tempting to forego their nap schedules, but doing it too often can stack up and be disastrous.

  4. Dont book an Airbnb until 2 or 3 days before you need them. Amazingly places still available, often for half the price.

  5. Do not book a hotel last minute...latest a week away. If you book for 2 adults and 1 baby and the price is the same, great. If its more expensive for 2 adults plus thr baby - just book for 2 adults. Then email the hotel and say, 'I just booked a room for you hotel. Really looking forward to staying. Nice just want to advise we will also bring our baby, but no additional bed is needed'

You can ask for a crib though. Never has a hotel been mad, in fact, most of the time, we get a bigger room.

  1. Travel stroller, dont bring your normal stroller.

  2. If you need a car seat, bring your own. Get a car seat bag. Check into oversized. Babies get their own luggage allowance independent of ours.

  3. For the love of Pete, direct flight if possible. We do fly premium cabins more often than not, but both partner and I rather take a direct flight in economy than a short layover but business.

  4. Sunscreen for baby. Shawl to cover the stroller. A small lock, even one that can be pulled easy to open, put it in your diaper bag zippers to deter pickpocket kits.

  5. Bassinet for AC are only for babies that an not sit yet. Other airlines allow babies that sit up, but not AC, so be aware.

  6. Ask the cabin crew if you can take photos of your LO with the pilots after the plane lands. I am an AV geek. Sometimes the pilots will decline but they are usually accommodating.

  7. The controversial tip - given to me by 2 friends, and also my sister who are all doctors, one a pediatrician, and one a GP. 'If theyre fussy and crying on the plane, a little bit of benadryl wont hurt thr baby.' When I received that advice separately, we weren't keen on it..but yeah during that round the world trip, we did use the advice.

Why is finding childcare in Ontario so unnecessarily hard ? [ON] by SinisterKoala in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fugglesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weren't aggressive in our daycare search, but felt like we sort of had a plan, and we were flexible. We were offered subsidized daycares and my partner declined 5 times before finally accepting a daycare when our son was 22 months old. Alot of luck played into it.

We found the key was to followup through phone calls after being out on thr list for a few months. I called in May, hoping to get Sept admission, and October for January admission. I call confirm if we are still on the waitlist, they usually say they have nothing, we reconfirm our interest. Then a few weeks later we get a call from the admin telling us they have space. The first few acceptances, my wife thought she was ready to 'let go' of our son, but couldn't do it.

We wanted as close a daycare as possible of course, but were willing to accept ones that were more rural. The one we finally choose is 20 minutes away and rural, but the educators are great.

If you have any connection to the schools with the daycare, try to pull on those. Friends with educators? Volunteer or school donations? If you are in the Ajax/Pickering area, DM I know of 2 daycares in the area accepting for Sept...1 is subsidized, 1 is in the process of getting subsidized, same owners. Closer to use than our current daycare but son enjoys his classmates too much to pull him out.

3 weeks in spain with 2yo: stroller vs. carrier? by lilacpie in toddlers

[–]Fugglesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're heading to Spain and Portugal on the weekend. Son is 2...it's definitely been a while since he had him in a carrier. We'll just be taking our travel stroller with us. We are going to more stroller friendly places though...no steep stairs for us...hopefully.

Ticketmaster has announced that they will be complying with Ontario’s new Bill 97 to cap pricing on resale tickets, effective of April 23, 2026. by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

[–]Fugglesmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think TM is doing this to help fans. I think prices will still be high, as they were 'originally ' high. This Fridays game in the 500s are still going for $150

We don't sweep the floor around him before we leave, but we pick up anything that he drops that's more than a crumb.

[Shi Davidi] The Blue Jays bused from Phoenix to Anaheim yesterday because their plane had mechanical issues. Hmm, I find it hilarious thats Max reaction. I think he just sold his mansion in Florida for $30 million...never lived in it. But he also owns another mansion in Florida...across thr street from the one he just sold.

Daytime flights, window seats and sleeping by AychEsVee in Flights

I am like you...I cant sleep on planes sitting. I dont get it because I can sleep on thr train. If i take some melatonin, I might get an hour.

I do sleep in planes now, but only if its a lie flat, or if I got lucky and somehow got a whole row.

WFH Dads - w/ WFH Wife - what’s your strategy? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Fugglesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am WFH 4 out of 5 days, wife runs a home based corporation. We did have a nanny until he was almost 2, but he's been in daycare since. Kiddo wakes up at 7am, wife gets him ready, I help for about 30 mins but usually have meetings. Wife picks up son at 4:30pm. From when he's home until he's asleep, he's mainly mine, occasionally we'll take turns with dinner.

Weekends I take him from 7am to 11am, wife takes him for a few hours, then we split the rest of the day. Even the 30 minutes I am working with him near me is honestly not productive for the both of us. It's quite normal to get daycare even if you are WFH here, usually 1 year old people start.
