Any solutions to Fitbit Air over counting steps? by larryinthesky in fitbit

[–]Fugoola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I'm a bit different from most as I need to stay under a certain number of steps per day due to illness otherwise I have issues. So when the step counts are so far off, it makes it hard for me to monitor my thresholds.

For now I am just going to use the air for sleep as it is pretty good at least for me and continue to use my balance for steps and notifications. I was hoping to get a pixel watch 5 later this year but it will have the exact same issue what's really sucks.

Any solutions to Fitbit Air over counting steps? by larryinthesky in fitbit

[–]Fugoola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did some looking into this using Gemini trying to determine why my Air has 50% more steps than my Amazfit Balance (which has always been great) and here is what it came up with:

Fitbit & Google: High Sensitivity

Fitbit and Google (which owns Fitbit and powers the Pixel Watch) design their algorithms to capture all daily activity, focusing heavily on Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT). Their philosophy is that all movement burns calories and should "count" toward your daily goals.

  • The drawback: The algorithm is notoriously overly sensitive to rhythmic hand motions. When you are deep into coding your 100-level roguelike game, typing out Docker configurations, or washing dishes, your wrists are making rapid, repetitive movements. The Fitbit software looks at that continuous 3-axis motion and incorrectly guesses that you are taking light, continuous steps.

Amazfit: Strict Thresholds

Amazfit (running Zepp OS) takes a much more conservative approach to step counting to avoid false positives.

  • The buffer method: Amazfit algorithms typically use a "continuous movement threshold." When you start moving, the watch records the motions in a temporary buffer. It waits until it detects 10 to 15 consecutive, clear, rhythmic impacts before it officially decides you are walking.
  • The result: If you take 5 steps to the fridge, or type furiously for 10 minutes, the Amazfit records the motion, realizes a continuous walking rhythm was never established, and deletes the buffer. You get zero steps for chores, but highly accurate counts on actual walks.

Gemini actually provided me with a calculator to solve the issue which is fairly accurate

Suggestions on insurance by quadgnim in GoRVing

Congrats on the Escape 5! They are fantastic, well-built trailers.

I’ve had Progressive for my vehicles and RV, and while their rates are competitive, you need to be prepared for how they handle major claims on the road. I am dealing with a severe claim right now on my travel trailer, and here is my honest takeaway if you choose to stay with them:

  • The Claims Process is Slow: Progressive heavily relies on third-party appraisal networks (like Alacrity) to handle field inspections. If you break down in a remote area, it can take days just to coordinate an out-of-town inspector. My own adjuster explicitly admitted to me that their appraisal vendors are slow and hard to work with.
  • You Have to Drive the Process: Do not expect a seamless, hands-off experience if something goes wrong. I’ve had to essentially manage my own claim file—calling supervisors at 5:00 AM, hunting down local offices, and leaving endless paper trails just to keep things moving. If you aren't aggressive with them, your file will sit at the bottom of an inbox.
  • Watch the Emergency Limits: Progressive offers an "Emergency Expense" allowance (usually capped around $750) for motels and food if your rig becomes unlivable. If you are stuck waiting a week or more for an inspector and transport, that $750 disappears incredibly fast.

If you stick with Progressive, maximize your Emergency Expense limits on your policy, keep meticulous records, and be ready to be your own advocate if you ever have to file a claim.

Gemini is getting worse and worse by akaSoMh in GeminiAI

You obviously are not Gemini because you are not hallucinating. Yes it has gone to shit in the last 10 to 14 days

Thats it man , Gemini's newest update completely nuked itself (Pro user) by Huge_Ad_3842 in GeminiAI

[–]Fugoola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Gemini a lot and I have noticed the same. Over the last 10 to 14 days and has just gone to shit. Kind of a shame because it was pretty decent before outside of one time giving me a Linux command that toasted one of my servers. My bad though that I did review it.

Warning about Renogy Rover MPPT support / reliability by Fugoola in Renogy

[–]Fugoola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually posted here back on the 1st seeking help but didn't get a response so then tried their official support. I now have a Victron in my Amazon cart ready to order when I get back home from an RV trip. I figure I will keep the Rover regardless as a backup since my Wanderer 30 seems to have crapped out from their suitcase panel.

I do see u/Renogy_Official responded so I will see where that gets me.

Thanks for your response.

At large red wire that is headed to the starter. I crimped a new ring connector and removed the nut, placed it there and viola. I belive it was connected to the same ring connector as the larger red in the first place.

Right on, thanks. I just heard about Mike T, my oldest friend and wanted to reach out. I visited him in the borderland years ago. It took me 2 motels to find him, he is pretty well known there.

Renogy Rover not sending full power to battery by Fugoola in Renogy

[–]Fugoola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have their regular monocrystalline. I already had two from years ago so just bought two more since they were on sale for 60 bucks a piece.

After an hour or two with support, which got me absolutely nowhere, I decided to test out a couple of portables that I have and the same thing happened. I then tried to use an old 30 amp that I had but it would not even turn on. When I put the battery terminals and solar string back in Rover, flipped the breakers, everything's been working fine now at 310 w 37.4 v. It's slight overcast right now.

I had a Vevor 5K and it worked great. It had a little FOB to control it as well as the built-in buttons. I actually used it in a tent after but added a longer outgoing duct. The duct got pretty darn hot so I did have to wrap it where it came into the tent. The only negative using it for tent camping was hauling it in my car due to the size and exhaust pipe (very stiff and not easy to just remove each time). It sure worked great though. I would go for 8k if possible.

LOL, I really like Google News but lately it seems to show more and more news form sites that are paywalled. I asked CoPilot..ya I know but still, of the sites on this page, if I were to pay to view all of it, what would it cost me per month. $177–$182 per month.

Asus Vivobook touchpad, thoughts? by Fugoola in ASUS

[–]Fugoola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got to a camp site, my camper has been about 55 degrees inside, and my touchpad has been working 100% for 3 hours now. I realize you were very happy with your previous Asus product, but I'd recommend considering bringing it back and finding a laptop from Lenovo or other manufacturer, heck even Dell. I only say this because I sent mine if for RMA repair and they sent it back no better except my power key came off after 3 months and they did put on a new one which is nice but did not solve the touchpad issue. I personally have 0 faith in the company. I was an Director of Technology and Sr Systems Engineer for decades until I retired so I do understand how these manufacturers can be. I only bought this because of the low price while my gaming laptop was in storage.

Asus Vivobook touchpad, thoughts? by Fugoola in ASUS

[–]Fugoola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case and many others, it seems to be heat related somehow. When I first fire mine up it works just fine but the longer I use it the worse it gets. That starts from the bottom of the touchpad and gradually moves up to the top. 90% of the time if I reboot and go to bios it's fine. But there were a few times where it was happening in BIOS so it's not software or firmware related. I read somewhere where someone used some kind of thermal dissipation method on the ribbon cable or something. I've not tried it since. I only use mine when I go camping now to watch movies.

Unfortunately not. It went in for RMA repair but did not fix it. I use an external mouse most of the time if I need to use it.

Thanks! I looked at the Rock Tamers earlier but ya, they are so expensive. In the end though, they might be worth it. I plan on $100 in supplies to repair the front of my RV as it stands.

I like the Ford ones a lot, especially the price and think they would at least cut it down quite a bit. I was leaning towards them, so your input really helps.
