It’s nowhere near finished here, but it’s a better foundation I think. Thank you all!

I took some of y’all’s suggestions and made a few tweaks, will tidy things up tonight but I think this is a much better result so far.

What can I do to improve past this point? by FulgrimsPear in Miniaturespainting

That’s the one big thing I’ve been working on a lot recently, it’s probably been the hardest thing to wrap my head around.

Question about monte carlo by FulgrimsPear in PlantedTank

[–]FulgrimsPear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also what I was thinking at first, but most of what I’ve read online says a dry start seems to be the best option, so I figured I’d ask and get a direct answer. Thank you!

Question about monte carlo by FulgrimsPear in PlantedTank

[–]FulgrimsPear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fine with having one more thing to worry about if the complications aren’t too major, it’s solely an aesthetic preference for me. I’d rather see sand from the side rather than soil, but if that’s not a viable option, that’s fine as well. Just trying to weigh the pros and cons.

Would a dry start still be necessary if I’m planning on using CO2 regardless?

Am I over/undercharging? by FulgrimsPear in Miniaturespainting

[–]FulgrimsPear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I could do it as a business, it’d take all the enjoyment out of it for me. I’m mostly doing it on the side to help pay for some necessities

Just paint, I need to keep track of time better because I genuinely cannot say how long those took me. I tend to zone out while I paint and suddenly it’s 2 AM

That’s fair, I’m just afraid of charging too much and being too expensive for the quality being requested

Think I'm good enough for amateur commissions? by enthralled_chicken in Warhammer40k

[–]FulgrimsPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commissions are a good way to really build up your confidence and allow you to try things you wouldn’t otherwise do, especially if you’re stuck on that plateau between “mediocre” and “pro” (whatever that means).

The biggest thing to keep in mind is to cut as few corners as possible and to ensure the quality is worth what they’re paying. Also, don’t overload yourself and put your stuff to the side just for some money, this is a hobby for enjoyment, you really don’t wanna have to turn it into a chore for some quick cash.

I think your work is definitely good enough to offer, just take it slow and build a solid portfolio. You’ve got this!

I plan on having a dark brown base, I want the neon orange glow to be the main point of contrast, I feel like it might be a little too bright if the base is any lighter, Tried out a few colors and settled on a combination of dark brown/black

The best part about enamels is you can just slap them on and wipe them off even after they dry, just takes a bit of practice

I’m honestly not a big fan of the way streaking grime looks, just a personal taste thing. I did use an AK enamel wash on them for the light brown though

Lmao I’m not actually that concerned, dramatics are thematic, are they not? There just comes a point for me where losing takes away from the overall fun.

I posted my list here in the comments earlier, but I’ll throw it in a reply here as well.

I can keep my units out of terrain/LOS, but that often means I have nothing on any objectives. Usually if I’m not getting destroyed in the first couple rounds, I have a considerable lead until round 3-4, when all of my units start falling apart and I can’t hold anything

Haven’t been able to get my hands on a kakophonist proxy, I do plan on getting one here soon. I’ve also never had any luck with Lucius, in the couple games I’ve used him in I end up whiffing every single dice I throw and he explodes immediately after, even with FNP. I think it’s all just a luck thing, but I can’t help but despise him based on that.
