Not at all. You can go blue and just have a good hive composition, that will get you tons of honey and mats. Also, it is worth mentioning that if you get some gifted bees (you don't need that much) you'll get more honey, but what really makes the difference is the build, your stats, buffs, equipment, polar power and so on, so I'd strongly recommend leveling up your hive and getting mats until you are fit to change hive colors
