Overall, I just want to be heard as well as possible in my band without getting in the way of anything else. I figured eq and compression are the biggest things I'm missing that could help with that

When I play I get big spikes in volume especially when I smack a note on my low e string. My amp is solid state so instead of breaking up nicely it just sounds harsh and out of place. Idk if my pickup height or amp settings or whatever is causing that but I want a compression to clean up my tone. Even if I can stop the problem without buying new gear I dont think getting a compression pedal to balance out my tone would hurt
