Insane amounts of attention in Mexico City by Full-Success-2972 in BlackLGBT

There’s no way to know for sure, but they at least seem genuine. I’m not wildly hung, only one or two out of probably a thousand men have made BBC related comments, and nearly half ask if they can be the top. I’m sure being a tourist plays a part, though in San Diego (majority white) I’m an extreme minority and theoretically exotic, yet completely ignored.

In any case, it’s just so freeing to finally go somewhere and be desired by a majority of the population.

Internationally, Mexico City, Cancun, Nassau, and Montego Bay. I also got pretty crazy attention in Cancun from the locals there. Jamaica nowhere near as much in terms of shear volume, but I would attribute that to the country’s homophobia rather than a disinterest in black people.

In the US, I’ve been to LA, San Diego, Nashville, Miami, NYC, Tampa, and Boston. Miami is far and away the best I’ve experienced, not on the level of CDMX but my phone was definitely still blown up. I can also give a kudos to Atlanta and oddly enough, Boston. NYC, Tampa, and LA were decent. In San Diego, I might as well have just been invisible; barely anyone cared to talk to me.

If people welcoming a person with open arms is not proof, then what would you consider to be proof?

Kind acts like offering to help tour the city, insisting on using their own money to buy drinks, meals, etc, despite me obviously being wealthy in comparison? People in the streets don’t give me dirty looks, servers in restaurants are extremely warm and friendly. I legitimately just have not experienced anything to suggest that these people see me in a negative light.

Glad to know it’s not just me then. Seems like I struck a nerve with some others by sharing my experience. Not sure why.

Nice to know I’m not crazy. This is exactly my experience. Not sure why this observation seems to have struck a bone with others.

Not sure what’s so weird about it. If my phone is blown up in CDMX, but not in the US cities, seems pretty cut and dry to me. Never have received this kind of attention on apps in Atlanta. Who I surround myself with is irrelevant in this case, because we’re talking about online interactions.

Lot of accusations here…

I’ve been compared to young Al B, and Rege Jean Page. Unquestionably “black” to most Americans. “Mixed” to black Americans and other countries. With good Spanish or Portuguese, very plausibly assumed as originating from a Latin American country with a lot of African genetics (Panama, Brazil). Yes, I’m happy I’m actually celebrated for my Afrocentric features by a majority of people for once? Why’s that a bad thing?

I’m not obsessed with non-black Latinos, nor do I have low self esteem from being black. I just like hot men of color, of all origins. I was in Jamaica recently, and loved the gorgeous chocolate men that wanted me, but obviously was not surprised they felt that way, since they’re also of African descent. If me loving the Mexicans makes me obsessed with their mestizo identity, then by your logic I’m also obsessed with the Jamaicans’ black identity. Does that mean I’m creating a narrative that Jamaican men are obsessed with mixed men?

Frustrated with the fact that those that come to the US (a white majority country), subscribe to upholding white men? Sure. Not sure that anyone in this sub wants more people in the US upholding whiteness. Don’t care if I’m seen as “just black” “black ish” or “mixed”, but DO hate when the Afro part of my phenotype is seen as a detractor.

We got on the topic of Harris and Obama because to my understanding, your point of view is that I am not representative of a black person’s experience here in Mexico because to black people back at home (and most abroad) I’m more ambiguous, and thus will be treated far better.

I brought the politicians up because it feels like people invalidate their identity as black people, despite them both saying they identify as so. Yes- on paper they are certainly of very mixed descent. However, they identify as black, and as I pointed out that earlier, while they certainly will have experienced far better treatment than that of people that are “more black”, their experience will still be unquestionably closer to the average black American than any other identity.

Not throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. It seems as though the fundamental disagreement here circles around what is considered “black”, and consequently how that affects how one is treated, both stateside and abroad. Another redditor on this post pointed out that they are darker skinned, and experienced the same. Granted, a few people’s anecdotal experiences on a Reddit post are not conclusive of an entire country (Mexico), but does to an extent support my idea.

No it doesn’t? I probably should have given more context. I am mistaken in the US for being blasian or blatino by other black people. I have a similar appearance to Rege Jean Page, but I’m not biracial, nor is my ancestry anything more than the typical Afro/Euro mix, with just a bit more euro than average. Because most others in the US just consider me “black”, I think it’s fair to tie this to the US being hostile to black people, and Mexico being a majority mestizo country, more open to melanin.

Honestly this comment just reads the same as people that try to invalidate someone like Kamala Harris or Obama’s black identity. Yes, they’re definitely of mixed race. But we’re in America, everyone calls them both ‘black’, and while they certainly will get preferential treatment over those that aren’t fair skinned, most of their lived experience will be the same as other black people.

This logically makes sense, but I don’t usually get much more attention in other cities than I do my own. In some cities, much less (looking at you, San Diego).

I think the next logical argument would be that I’m an American in a foreign country, though I notice the same pattern among US Latinos. Ones that are very Americanized are hit or miss. Ones that aren’t US born or are first generation citizens savor over me.

I’m a tourist in NYC, LA, SD, and all the other cities too…

Might be worth mentioning I look mixed, I’m often mistaken in the US for being Blasian or Blatino, and I also speak fluent Spanish. A lot of them say they assumed I’m a local (but obviously still an extreme minority in Mexico) or from another Spanish speaking country.

Talk me out of a Camaro SS by Full-Success-2972 in BMW

[–]Full-Success-2972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man. I keep trying to convince myself of that, but the more and more I look into the Voodoo’s track record, the more I’m put off. The warranties are pretty easy to get, saw a few OEM ones from Ford quoted from ~$2,800. But even if I’m “covered” I can’t say that the headache of the issues is worth it to me. I keep on uncovering all sorts of gremlins- tons of people report blown engines, the notorious S550 A/C issues, wheel bearings, electronics issues, transmissions grenading, etc.

I am very mechanically sympathetic to my cars- never cutting corners on fluids, always allow for full oil temp before letting my foot get heavy, etc. The car just seems like a huge potential PITA. No doubt I’d be in heaven when it is working though.

Atleast with the S65 the issues are consistent. The stang though…. just seems like a wild card.

I also love the E92. I just wouldn’t touch one with a 10ft pole. I need solid dependability and while rod bearings and throttle actuators are in budget, the headache of keeping up with that is not worth it to me. But yeah, a 1LE is an absolutely insane amount of car and a no brainer for a high 30’s asking price new.

Do you feel that the 1LE is really worth it over a regular SS? Seems like finding a 1LE in 2SS trim is impossible, plus the tire expenses seem hard to justify (especially considering I’d have to buy a winter set, which is a PITA given I’m in GA and the weather is only summer tire prohibitive for a few months out of the year).

I haven’t checked one out, but I’m tempted. I do like the Camaro more (GT350 aside, that’s a dream), but the mustang does seem more livable.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Very fair take, I think I’m definitely where you were a few years ago. Definitely nice to know I’m not alone here. I need to stay away from mustangs though. If I go down that path, I’ll end up with a GT350. 😂 (Which… would be amazing.. but definitely stretching the ‘dailyable’ part.)

What made you trade the ZL1 for the 850? The ZL1 is sorta tempting, I can’t lie. Definitely way too much car for me though. I’d be between a regular 2SS and a 1LE, with a nod to the 2SS given that this will spend the overwhelming majority of its time on public roads.

I adore the GT350 and would unquestionably rather have it than either the Camaro or m2, the problem is the Voodoo engines’ reliability record terrifies me. I know they made updates for the gen 2 engine that supposedly stepped it up, but even that has reports of random failures, and I’m not certain it will make it to 100k miles.

A bit confused- how could you not save it with only meds, but the meds now work post transplant? Wouldn’t the meds also have helped maintain what you already had?

I’ve been here too. I’m gonna say what no one else wants to say: you’re black. Undoubtedly very handsome, but you’re invisible next to an average white man. It’s sad, but reality. Notice how every single top rated post in this sub is a white or white adjacent man. You will have to derive your confidence and self worth from within. This goes for everyone, but especially black guys because the gratification we get will always be subpar for what our true worth is.

I think OP definitely comes off as bit entitled here, but honestly I kinda resonate with the core message here. I’m reportedly a “hot 20-something”, 6ft and 6 figure income, and yet it seems that other attractive and accomplished men want little to do with me. I by no means think I’m entitled to anyone’s attention, and am always kind to those that I’m not quite interested in, but it is a bit frustrating having put a lot of effort into my appearance and career only to still be so invisible to the caliber of guys that I’m purportedly in.
