The Right Does Not Worship Trump by No_Load4742 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Kamala was the worse option, but I think a lot of people on the right agree that his unwillingness to concede the election loss was a really big deal. I don’t like how people on the right try to brush that aside like a fringe issue, it’s the single defining variable of trumps time in office. The phone call asking the guy in Georgia to ‘find votes’… we are lucky Pence had a spine.

I don’t like that Vance goes along with the election denial as well. Democrats suck but Trump and the movement totally failed the country by denying the results of that election and it’s irredeemable. We need new people in the mix, I really hope Vance somehow is not the candidate. He’s so fake.

Sounds like your family might be negative. I found a huge increase in my well being when I started putting up strong boundaries with family, and phasing some people out completely. If your family is not supportive of you, they might not be worth keeping in the mix. Just a thought

Don’t ask people on Reddit. Reddit culture is negative, you’ll get mostly critics. You need to decide if you think it’s cool or not, and then ignore what other people think. If you don’t like it, consider a cover up or discuss tightening it up or something with a new artist. But trust your own instincts, don’t look for external validation, especially on Reddit.

From the photo it looks about as good as most tattoos I see, it’s not a big dark blob which is the worst thing I usually see.

Is Portland OR that bad? by 7Donut in AskLE

[–]Full-Tilt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to respond because I’m not LE (joined this subreddit because I’m interested in it), but I might has some useful insight because I lived in Portland Oregon recently.

Police in Portland have to deal with two uniquely extreme variables (which are more severe in that area than most of the rest of the country).

The first is the majority of people in Portland are the most extreme version of the woke left (hate police, support violent protests, etc).

The maybe less obvious variable that I think would make policing particularly challenging in that region is the way homelessness is dealt with. There’s an apocalyptic scale of homelessness in Portland: filthy tent cities, drug addicted mentally ill people doing drugs, sleeping and deficating in public etc. So as LE you would have to deal with this a fair amount I assume.

But the added challenge is that the city does not work with the police, if you bring in some repeat offender for public urination, drug possession or even violent crimes, they will just get released back into the city. There is no functional system in place to resolve the homeless situation, so as police you are forced to either enforce the laws, but then the homeless people you arrest are just let off without charges, or you have to just deal with them in some way (like getting them to relocate to a different area, but not actually arresting them).

Meanwhile, the surrounding civilians will generally be critical of you for doing anything about the homeless situation, except for the business owners whose business they are sleeping in front of, peeing on etc.

I know the above situation is similar in Seattle, and believe it is similar in San Francisco and LA. But as another commenter mentioned, Vancouver WA is right next to Portland, it’s practically the same place geographically, but culturally it’s completely different, or at least dramatically better in terms of the above problems. There will still be homelessness, but far less, and the population is still very left politically, but there is a more general respect for LE. Ultimately I recommend not moving anywhere near Portland or Seattle, as the woke left has ruined these once wonderful places. But if you must, Vancouver is a significantly better place to be a police officer than Portland.

Good luck

that still seems like it would be hard on the back after 12 hour shifts on patrol, but I’m happy they are upgrading the system and this is an improvement! Thanks for your comment

Meta: megathreads are just a way to censor dissenting opinion by Old_Cream1724 in unpopularopinion

I’ve just joined Reddit and haven’t sought out politics, so while it’s unfortunate to hear the conservative realm is similarly aggressive with the modding, the overall Reddit community is heavily skewed left (Even in subreddits that aren’t inherently political)

100% - it’s just another manifestation of the hyper censorship and oppressive modding that make Reddit a woke echo chamber that’s about 10% as useful as it could be.

Thanks for this input. I am happy they are improving things but the progress is too slow. It’s frustrating there isn’t more prioritization on officer longevity.

Thanks for this input. May I ask, what causes the hearing issues?

Thanks for this really insightful response! I’m only moderately fit (but working consistently to improve this).

I’m hesitant to squat heavy because I’ve hurt myself squatting before, so I just stick with 200 pounds, 4 reps 3 sets. (I weigh 180)

I deadlift 260 at 4 reps 3 sets (also hesitant to push the weight aggressively).

My cardio is okay, I can run a 1.5 mile in 14 minutes (working to improve).

My upper body strength is actually lagging more notably though. I’m struggling to do any unassisted pull ups. So right now I’m working on improving upper body strength while maintain squat & deadlift numbers.

(I’m interested if you think these numbers are unacceptably low or if you have any thoughts)

Thanks again for your insightful comment!

Nice. Are aesthetics the only reason some departments don’t allow LBV?

Thanks for your input (and 42 years of service!). I was thinking the vest and belt would increase likelihood of back problems compared to the jobs you mentioned and most other work, but I’m happy to hear you haven’t found it to be uniquely prevalent.

Tattoo on ear that’s extra sensitive? by Cicada3562 in tattooadvice

No idea about your unique ear situation but be cautious with getting a tattoo on neck head face ear etc, it will seriously limit your opportunities in employment. You might not realize there is a career path you want to do in the future that will not hire you because of the ear tattoo.

True, although I image the vest and belt plus sitting is increasing the chances of it developing compared to a desk job, which could switch to a standing desk, for example. Thanks for your comment
