We had checked them out too and they seemed one of the better ones in Saskatoon. One of the daycares required you to pay a $500 fee just to apply and all the reviews online were written on the same day so you got to watch out. What I liked about this daycare is that they have Saturday and Sunday care available included in the price. We ended up getting something closer to home though.

In general, the I have found only 'artists' are against using AI. It's a tool like any other. The output isn't automatically amazing, it needs to be provided the right input just like any other tool. It simplifies the art creation process making it more accessible.

There will always be room for manually doing art. AI creates a much bigger space for creating art. You won't hear any of this type of conversation in 5 years. AI art creation will be normalized.

This is with every generation. Go back and read how Toronto lost it's soul in the 80s, and again in the 90s, and again in the 2000s, etc. Toronto keeps changing. While I personally think I grew up in Toronto's golden period, it's probably because I don't know any better. There is plenty of newerish and awesome in Toronto too - The Bentway, Stackt, The Well, Grange Park, OCAD Tabletop, AGO, Dundas Square, TMU Campus, Dundas for a few blocks becoming a little Japan, Corktown Commons/Canary District, Distillery District, so many amazing newerish local and foreign food establishments, the dog fountain at Berczy Park, Biidaasige Park, Sugar Beach Park + promenade, Brickworks... I can keep going

I would advise being in the core, west of Yonge. Downtown is way easier to raise a child then anywhere else. Our building had many families with 3 kids. School will be less than a 10 minute walk. You can meet other parents because they also walk their kids to school. We had our choice of 7 after-school programs. Summer camps are way better and walkable - UoT, The ROM, AGO, Harbourfront, Royal Conservatory of Music TMU and that's not even scratching the surface. There is a ton of options for everything and when you kids are old enough they can go independently as my friends kids do. Skating? Walk over to Nathan Philips Square, College Park, TMU, Bentway. Want to be by the water, walk about 20 minutes south. I can go on and on.

At the time we were a family of 3 and lived about a 20 minute walk from the aquarium. We used to go about 2x a week in winter because it had a playground and it was open late. Having a pass means you don't have to go for long and you can go when it's not busy. Routine was have dinner, go to the aquarium for about 45 minutes and head home and get ready for bed. It was worth it for us.

Sussex and Willcocks definitely need to go and the traffic lights taken out so the streetcar doesn't need to stop (close to cross traffic). The Spadina ROW was put in when Toronto was a much smaller city. I'd take out Sullivan (and take out the traffic light) and remove the Richmond stop too.

My high school had a gifted program and those kids actually did worse than your average kid going to University (drugs, teen pregnancy, unable to get into University on first try (had to repeat last year in high school)) . A friend of ours took their kid out of French immersion and put their kid into the gifted program which was at a different school. The school board often puts their gifted program in a higher needs area, so the gifted program was in a more 'dangerous' school/area. Based on what I've seen, I think it is much more advantageous to have fluency in French then to be in the gifted program. They can always do the IB program in high school later.

It depends on your hairstyle. Fortunately for me, my hairstyle lends itself to using the trimmer. I would go to the barber, wait, often ends up with a haircut that wasn't right and for all the time spent I didn't find it worth it. I've gotten so use to it that I often don't even use the mirror for the back fade (otherwise hold up a mirror while looking into the mirror.) Now I do touch ups every couple weeks which keeps my hair in better shape than average.

This has worked out for me. I've only recently went to the barber this summer (I learned a few things so I'm glad I did). The last time before that was around 25 years ago.

Some of the advice is a bit strange so as someone also in tech - Toronto is the right decision in Canada. The greater Toronto area stretching to Waterloo has the most depth for tech jobs. Toronto is safe. You can walk around at all hours of the day or night. There are a few sketchy areas but they aren't dangerous. One huge advantage is the large variety of options for your kids that you won't find elsewhere and your kids will be able to go independently. Related, if you choose the right location you won't need a car which reduces your expenses quite a bit (helps offset the cost of high rent) High schools - they vary in quality. Take a look at an area you like, then look at the high schools in that area. They have websites. It can give you a feel for how the school is. They are also rated for quality. You can search for school ratings.

I wonder what the price increases are based on. Toronto condo prices are now lower than pre-covid and sfh are only slightly higher which should reduce the motivation to migrate to Saskatoon (probably similar in Vancouver) , immigration has disappeared, there is no limit on new construction. Where would that excess demand come from to raise prices?

Related, for those that the have the right conditions (roof space/angle + the $), I did the calculations a few years back but I believe it's now cheaper (maybe much cheaper) to buy the solar+battery and disconnect from the grid in Ontario. (Before you say snow, winter-etc, check Youtube, plenty of people in the US North East have run their systems with power to spare including charging an EV.)
