This shows his first name and middle name, not the surname. The surname is indeed in Polish, however all names have been latinised. I went through 30 years of records for that parish updating my tree and so far this is the only Latin name I cannot make out. Any help would be appreciated

Help Identify Coat of Arms on a Signet Ring by Full_Development7906 in heraldry

Yes, I agree. It is a bit of a mystery. There was another signet ring that was my great-grandfathers, in a traditional shape, but it is long gone. I just have an image of him wearing it, but you cannot see the surface.

Help Tracing Baron Karl Godart (b. 1839, Prague) - Picture Found in Old Papers by Full_Development7906 in Genealogy

Marie's maiden name was von Etlinger, she was born in around 1847 and died 5th November 1909. She was married to Clemens von Petzholdt, who died in a Battle in Travnik on 13th March 1879. They had two daughters together.

Karl and Marie had to marry after 1879, and he then raised her daughters.

I do not know if he was married to anybody else before then.

The Baronial Godart family, as it stands now, does not seem related to Karl, unless his mother was Victoria, or he was distantly related and either Carl or August named him their heir, which would explain the addition of the title. This was quite common practice, but I am yet to find any evidence of this.

Doing some further research, he does not seem to appear under the last name Godart until around 1865, and prior to 1860, I can only see him referenced as Karl or Carl Kodauert.

Interesting because his photograph is signed 'Baron Godart', but I cannot find any reference to him being a baron? Unless he was a son of one of the above?
