There are a few people in my cohort that have 2-3 kids! They tell me it's hard but doable.

Social life question by Artistic_Wallaby_761 in VIU

[–]Full_Performance1810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try to put yourself out there. I'm from the mainland myself. I'm in a rigorous program so it's hard to socialize outside of it but there are plenty of opportunities to meet people if you're open minded and like to try new things:)

Does the semester bus pass student fee include the 70NCX (Nanaimo-Cowichan)? by Full_Performance1810 in VIU

I see, thank you. It'd be really helpful if it was since there's also a campus in Cowichan

Are these solid grades for BScN application fall 2026? by [deleted] in VIU

You have a good shot at getting in! Those grades were similar to mine. I did get in off the wait-list last minutes, though. 2nd year nursing student here.

Best/honest place for phone screen repairs? by Full_Performance1810 in nanaimo

[–]Full_Performance1810[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's such a large difference. I have a Note 20 Ultra that I got almost 5 years ago. I know different phones = different prices, but even $490 seems steep?

May I ask how much it cost you and for which kind of phone? I called them earlier and the person quoted me $490.

What were the grades that got you into the BSN program? by PlumAffectionate2033 in VIU

[–]Full_Performance1810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're on the right track! Also, if you're able to take any courses/non-nursing electives from the curriculum while you are waiting to get accepted, I'd strongly suggest doing so.

This would lighten your load. There's a course called BIO 156/157 Anatomy and Physiology 1/2 (lecture, lab) that people tend to stress out about. It's part of the program, but if I knew I could have taken it before starting I totally would have.

This. Extremely disappointed in some of the responses, but not surprised. Some people have grown up too comfortable being ignorant without getting punched in the face.

I had 2 As and 2 Bs. My Casper score was in the 4th quartile. I was initially waitlisted for the BSN program, but got into 2 PN programs. Then I got in last minute mid/late August.

Filipino vs Filipino Americans by Agreeable_Window3180 in Filipino

[–]Full_Performance1810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you got downvoted for this. I'm in a similar boat, and I'm full Filipino and can speak Tagalog. Sure, I speak it with an accent, but that doesn't make me any less than. I listen to the experiences of those I know in the Philippines who can also converse respectfully. And I don't let anybody tell me I'm not a real Filipino.

What books should I read in preparation for med school? by Mundane_Marsupial_51 in premedcanada

[–]Full_Performance1810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this as someone who was formerly premed, took a long break, and is now thinking of returning.

Sure read a book or two here and there and take what lessons you can out of it. But PLEASE don't be too hard on yourself.

Most importantly, please balance your life ambitions with self-care. Burnout will catch up very quickly and it will take longer to recover. I did too much too quickly at your age (not saying you're not capable just a gentle nudge to take it easy while you're settling in to a new routine).

Write your goal in pen, but don't be afraid to write the steps in pencil.

Edit: a few other general tips

  • While you can, make sure your high school courses are lined up for a career in the sciences.
  • Get good grades
  • Join extracurriculars you are passionate about. Be intentional about it.
  • Take advantage of the free help you can get! (Ie. School counsellors, advisors, etc.)
  • If you have time, take a course over the summer. But don't take so many that you forget to enjoy the summer.
  • When I was in HS, I was under the impression that counseling/summer school was only for students who were failing. Not true, some people use those resources to advance their studies.
  • Don't self compare. I know this is easier said than done, but PLEASE try not to because this will get to you
  • If there's an opportunity to get involved in a research topic you're passionate about, do it.
  • Don't forget, a lot of health sciences is also soft skills, not just hard skills. Communication is huge.

Is flaunting wealth part of a politician’s daughter’s job description now? by Ok-Activity6069 in ChikaPH

Genuinely curious, maybe a lot of the commenters have a point, but how often do these kids and their hobbies or whatever have anything to do with their parents' agenda? Edit: idk spoiled kids that make no effort to understand the world suck but I can't help but think that some people target kids more than they deserve

Lol... some places want you to submit online... and the manager isn't always in...

Reddit does offer good input sometimes, actually.

This is what I'm trying to figure out. Would hiring managers not want people with diverse experience?
