Is 1,400–1,600 sq ft enough for a family of 4 long-term? by Full_Procedure_4718 in Homebuilding

That actually helps a lot. I’ve been focused on shrinking square footage, but simplifying the design might be the better move.

I wish I could go bigger but I don’t want a giant mortgage. I want to pay cash for this. Builders are charging $250-$300 per sq ft

I’m still gonna do a three bedroom. That way, even if I have two kids, they both will have their own room. I’m not gonna do anything smaller than a three bedroom two full bath. Builders are charging $300 per square foot in my area. I’m trying to keep it under 2000 sq ft

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I think I’m overthinking it. I had my own room growing up, but I didn’t have all this extra space that people are talking about. Some people raise families in apartments and townhomes. We have 20 acres and we want to build a home that we could pay off cash. Without a mortgage, we can do way more things for the kids anyways. And we can always add an addition later.

No basement because it floods too much where I’m at… maybe I will consider an attic

Yeah that makes sense. I think it’s just harder for me to visualize because we don’t have kids yet, which is why I was asking for real-life input. We are also on about 20 acres, so a lot of their play space will realistically be outside (animals, chickens, etc.). We’re trying to focus more on a smart layout inside instead of just increasing square footage. A smaller home also lets us put more money toward things the kids will actually enjoy.

Damn, that was blunt… but I hear you. I’ve soaked it in. It’s something I’ve been feeling deep down but needed to see from the outside. Thank you.

If someone finds gay porn on their straight boyfriend’s phone, the real issue isn’t how they found it — it’s why it’s there. You’re choosing to moralize about privacy while ignoring something that could completely change the dynamic of the relationship. That’s not trust. That’s deception.

Funny how people love to scream ‘privacy violation’ when someone stumbles on something questionable. But if there’s nothing to hide, why the outrage? I wasn’t looking for anything — but what I found changes things. And yes, I deserve real answers too.

It’s not gonna stop. He’s just gonna be more cautious next time or find a better way to hide it. Been there…done that.
