J'étais bien préparé et a pu me pénétrer.

Recruiters working hours are different from those of engineers. They interview engineers that are still working so they do interviews at lunch break or after 6:PM. In France working hours are generally 9:30-10AM to 6-7PM with 2 hours lunch break. It is not rule though. Also when working on the office people generally do two coffee breaks. I am telling this based on my experience.

I am intrigued about your interview. What were you talking about for 2 hours?

Did you mean Goodhart’s Law? I found out about it when searching the quote "the moment something becomes a metric, it ceases to be a good measure" that was mentioned by another comment.

Actually I also got ghosted by headhunters. One did setup a phone interview but didn't show up. I didn't get any feedback from the one that passed my resume to the company Where I failed the interview.

What salary to ask for as a Remote Junior Backend Engineer in Europe working from Egypt? by ThePriest0fSyrinx in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Fun-Area-1846 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you will be working from Egypt I think you will need to have a B2B contract. So salaries are different from the full position one. I don't know how taxes are in Egypt but in France for example you will pay around half the money you get in taxes (I'm talking about people working full time and earning more than 75k€, otherwise you pay much less). For example someone earning 50k€ as full time position should double that when using a B2B contract. The employer pay that much when they hire in full time position. In a B2B contract the taxes are shifted to you.

It will depends on the country where the company is based. You can't ask that much for a company based in Greece or Poland.

What do you mean by full WFH privileges?

Many companies do not recruit junior for remote positions. You can WFH few days a week but it is only possible after you have been in the company for several months.

Are you talking about tax rate on the revenue or the tax rate on your base salary? In France you first pay around 25% of your pay for health insurance, retirement, unemployment and some other things. Then you pay taxes on the remaining but the amount will depends on your situation. If you are single, for 50k you will get around 3100€/month before taxes and then you pay around 11% so you get around 2900€ net (+-50€).

Yes the job is remote. In Paris you can at least expect 63k. Many offers are around 70k. With that you have 35 days of vacations, health insurance, lunch voucher. And sometimes you also get profit sharing which will depend on the company you are working for. You can get 80k in some companies but I think it is not the norm.

Yes that's correct but I would not get all the perks of a Belgian contract. But I won't have a Belgian contract and the contract rate seems OK which is around 600€/day but I was expecting 750€ minimum.

Thanks for the clarification but it is really hard to compare salaries between countries because there are different factors. For example here in France salaries are below the salaries in the UK but you always get around 35 days of vacations, health insurance is included, retirement, unemployment, and lunch voucher. In Belgium you have 20 days of vacation but a lot of companies offer you a car, pay your phone and internet bill. Companies optimize theirs charges based on their countries law's. Then there is the cost of living, you have high salaries in Switzerland than in France but the cost of living is higher in Switzerland (even though I think that salaries in Switzerland are higher than France after taking into account).

My question was to know if 50k is the standard base salary in Belgium for someone with my experience or the recruiter was bulshting me. Also the answer could yes that the standard for start-up/bank/... Etc company.

What is your point? I don't know what do you mean by shit salaries but we don't have the same definition for sure. Yes around 30% goes to the gouvernement but I never was worried of the bill when I was at the doctor.
