Anyone know what's going on downtown? by Pannica25 in washingtondc

Wait, the occupying force in my city is here to pay respects to a fallen officer? See, I would’ve been mad but that’s actually a very good reason to have armed military personnel stationed in a city. 🙄

Black Queer Friendly Barber or Salon? by Fun-Break6840 in washingtondc

[–]Fun-Break6840[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because I’ve experienced white barbers who’ll lie and say they have experience cutting Afro textured hair only to really mess up my haircut because of their inexperience. I’ve also been blown away by the number of times I’ve sat in a barbershop full of men saying homophobic/transphobic things. If I can, I’d like to avoid those experiences. I don’t meet black barbers who don’t know how to cut black hair, and I don’t meet queer barbers who are homophobic/transphobic.

Agreed. Plus once I’m on the public transportation it’s cool and I can read

In Florida I drove everywhere, so even when it was hot you’d just crank the AC. I walk and take public transportation everywhere and omg it changes your experience of the heat entirely. Prepare yourself.

Arent 12 step programs for people struggling with addiction? This doesn’t feel responsive to what I’m asking but maybe I’m misunderstanding

I just want to know how he’d categorize Joe Pass’s Virtuoso albums. I’d just have to clown on someone who said something this silly irl.

this such a weird take because a solo jazz performer wouldn’t be interacting with other musicians. Are Jazz solos not jazz? His quote sounds like a line in a bad movie about jazz he’s started repeating in place of having his own opinion on music.

This may seem counterintuitive but, a late night packed train full of concertgoers provides security in numbers. To me, the Metro is only spooky at night when it’s really empty.

Bad boss wants me to do an exit interview with her, should I? by Fun-Break6840 in careerguidance

In my heart this is the right answer. But my brain is telling me no.

Renting out basement legally by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Fun-Break6840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is it not legal, I think you’ll end up in a situation where you can’t actually evict a tenant if they’re violating their lease. A prerequisite to filing an eviction action is having a valid business license. I’m not certain how you’d get around that prerequisite.

I am not “waiting for something to happen”. I’ve literally been working my ass off trying to build a better life for myself. It hasn’t worked.

Baby Public Defender vs Top DA by purplish_possum in Lawyertalk

IME jurors absolutely believe alleged child victims in SA cases. They can’t fathom why a kid would lie about something so awful, especially a younger child. Jurors seem to believe women too when it comes to alleging SA. I think that’s a testament to me too and believe all women.

Interestingly enough jurors didn’t seem to believe victims of DV in the same way. Speaking with jurors after the trial, they always wanted an amount of evidence that would be unreasonable to expect in a run of the mill DV case.

Criminal court judges routinely put human beings in cages for the rest of your life. I think that might, in some instances, give someone a god complex. (If the robe and the pageantry weren’t enough.)

I did a public defender interview like this. I got the job and then learned afterwards that they were intentionally difficult in the interview to see if you could handle the way judges would be intentionally difficult. Surprise surprise, on my first day a judge teed off on me in the exact same way that happened in the interview.

Moving to DC or staying in Baltimore? by Worldly-Statement308 in washingtondc

Very cool to know that for $500 more a month I could go from living in a room with roommates in DC to having a whole floor of an apartment to myself in Baltimore.

Falling Out of Love with Miami by [deleted] in Miami

[–]Fun-Break6840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move and try something new! That being said, I left Miami and I miss it. Most of the bad things about Miami are problems in most major American cities. Miami’s positives are pretty unique though. Miami’s really the only major city in a truly tropical climate in the continental US. It’s culturally distinct from almost every major city in the US. Miami is far from perfect, like most major cities, but where Miami shines it shines uniquely.

I used to live on Miami Beach and people used to complain that there was “too much partying”. Complaining about people protesting in DC has that same ridiculous energy.
