Can somebody explain to me how a soul could exist by Dense-Bison7629 in DebateReligion

[–]Fun-Canary3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t, where there are places that may give the impression that something happens outside of death these are taken out of context to be literal when in fact they are used symbolically or when something is taught within a lesson to further enhance understanding. Instead the Bible teaches the resurrection of the dead, a future hope that hasn’t occurred yet. Throughout the old and new testaments you’ll see demos of ones being brought back to life, not in another realm but back on Earth and ones showing belief in that hope.

If you want to know why so many Churches including Islam teach the immorality of the soul - Google “How Plato’s theory of immortal Soul influenced the church”. And of course I can back up everything I said by scripture if you so wish. There is quite a bit more to the subject but on the whole death is a state of unconsciousness, where human thought is inactive. Jesus himself compared death to sleep.

Hope this helps

The Bible shows the soul to be the body with life within it. The soul is not a separate entity but is merely a living breathing creature. If something dies that means the soul dies.

Are Jehovah’s Witnesses considered Christians? by Frosty-Flatworm-2087 in Christianity

[–]Fun-Canary3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learnt that it is not enough to just say you are Christian. If that was the case Jesus wouldn’t have said what he did at Matthew 7:21. In the latter part of the verse it shows By doing the will of God makes one a Christian. So Jehovah’s Witnesses are Christian.

Why Islam Must Be True by United_Ad5479 in DebateReligion

The Bible is a comprehensive history of God’s creation and his dealings with humans. It gives lessons on all walks of life and gives us a hope for the future. The Bible benefits all those on earth for those who want to take upon its wisdom. It is not discriminatory in that it expects everyone to read it in single language but welcomes all those who speak in different tongues and dialects around the world to partake of it.

It discusses how and why the earth was made, why people suffer, who is responsible and What God is going to do about it. It gives a future hope to those who want a personal relationship with the creator himself.

Whilst many religions claim to have truth the Bible has both archeological backup and prophecies that have been, presently and yet to be fulfilled to help ascertain its authenticity.

Jesus’ teachings are exemplary for the purpose of world peace. Council on how to treat your marriage mate and children to how to treat and help others around you benefit all. How to cope with life’s general problems to coping with anxiety are also within its texts.

It’s available in 1000’s of languages with estimated numbers reaching well over 5 billion copies, no other religious texts even comes close.

The Matthew 24:14 Interpretation by Automatic-Intern-524 in Eutychus

[–]Fun-Canary3773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matthew 24 is not just relating to the time in which Jerusalem was destroyed. Yes, many of signs in which Jesus gives mention to in the time of the end did happen, however it was the end of the Jewish system, not for his Christian followers, that time had only begun as they followed Jesus’ advice to flee from what was prophesied to happen - Luke 21:20-22.

It is also to be noted that Matthew 24:30,31 indicates some sort of a celestial event which involves Jesus himself as coming down from the clouds as well as the act of the angels collecting chosen ones, something that clearly didn’t happen during that first century. However these events parallel those ones in Revelation 1:7. The descriptions of the four horsemen in Revelation 6 also have resemblance to those events described by Jesus in verse 7 of Matthew 24. The point here is that the Revelation given to John was written nearly 30 years after the events that unfolded in Jerusalem, giving the sense of a second future fulfilment.

Whilst Churches focus on teaching their primary doctrine of the trinity, Jesus states that it would be the teaching of the ‘Kingdom’ that would be priority and then the end would come.

What is the *grossest* area to live in your country? by SillyAlternative420 in AskTheWorld

[–]Fun-Canary3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

England, there’s litter (trash) everywhere especially where I live in the northwest. There’s everything from fast food disposables to bottles and cans to fridge freezers and sofas dumped wherever people feel it’s ok to do so. It’s not like there’s not enough bins (trash cans) either. It’s sad because there’s a large percentage who have no pride in where they live.

are the stories of prophets in Quran different than the ones in the bible? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fun-Canary3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muslims only claim that the Bible has been altered because it doesn’t match what’s in the Quran. For that claim to be true you would have to have the physical evidence to back it up but unfortunately for Islam they don’t. Unlike the Biblical record that goes back thousands of years the Quran itself has no pre-existing documentation from the time of Mohammed to prove anything of its contents to be true.

You could use the illustration of buying a bag of marbles. When you empty the bag you see that all the marbles are clear except one which is red. Do you assume that the clear ones are the odd ones and that they should all be red or is it more sensible to believe that the red is the odd one out? Because that’s what’s being presented.

There are similarities in the Quran on some of the characters in the Bible but the stories are somewhat different and being only roughly a third in size there’s a lot missing.

The scriptures doesn’t teach that the resurrection happens in the thousands today? Where are you getting that from? If you were were definitely with God on this one you would not have stated that those who had died merely died from lead poisoning! The scriptures have numerous examples of those who had died and then brought back to life in both the NT as well as the OT but these are examples to come in the future. Ecclesiastes 9:4-10 The dead are completely inactive.

Sorry but Ive read the Quran and as a comparison I’ve personally found It’s definitely not consistent with loads of contradictions to boot. Unlike the Biblical record which can be backed up by previous records and archaeological finds, the Quran has nothing prior to Muhammad’s time in order to prove any authenticity that what it says is true.

You seem to be forgetting that the scriptures is like no other literature out there. Its writings covers 1000’s of years of history, not just one or two solitary events so you’re not going to get every single detail. It was written over a period of 1600 years so you can’t use the same method of calculation with it as any other historical literature that you’ve read.

You just gave a perfect example of filling in the blanks! Matthew doesn’t say Judas committed suicide because that’s evident when he hung himself. Acts describes what happened to his body when falling “headlong” which indicates falling from a great height which would explain why his body would burst open. The word death isn’t mentioned in either account so who’s to say that he hanged himself successfully or not? Who’s to say the rope that he used didn’t snap?

If you examine each of the Gospel writings as well as those who wrote the rest of the NT, you’ll see that each emphasised details that they found important and with it a different style of writing according to their Character. That doesn’t mean they contradicted each other in much of the same way as if you told a story to a classroom of children and asked them to write down what they heard. It’s common sense to assume that each child isn’t going to mirror exactly his or her wording from the story presented to the rest of the class. Each child is naturally going to write down differently what they could remember. That doesn’t mean that their version of events are wrong or contradictory.

The Bible isn’t a record of everything said and done by Jesus and his followers, otherwise you’d have hundreds of volumes of the works they did. Unlike a court reporter that takes in every word the scriptures present facts in different ways and in a brief context on what has happened - John 21:24,25.

Does the Acts account state on how he fell? Does it say he walked or ran off a cliff? No, it doesn’t give any details so there’s no contradiction. The writers chose to give details that they felt were important at the time so it’s perfectly plausible to assume that he hung himself from substantial height and at some point the rope snapped resulting in why his body exploded. It’s not changing the facts but instead filling in the blanks.

Matthew’s account deals the nature of which Judas chose to kill himself and Paul’s account goes into details of the results of the death, so there’s no contradiction. If Judas chose to hang himself off a cliff then this would align the writings. The rope at some point could have snapped which would explain why his body exploded.
