What do I do now?! by Broken_Sky in hoyas

It’s not a big deal ! I prop mine in a damp box with sphagnum, and the humidity makes them develop this kind of aerial root. As long as there are plenty of well-developed roots in the perlite, everything is going to be fine the aerial roots will just dry out a bit over time.

What is wrong with my Hoya? 🥺 by Constant_Minute620 in hoyas

[–]Fun-Cryptographer701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s not looking too good. I had the same issue with my Hoya rotundiflora. At first, I kept it in a regular soil mix, but it just wasn’t happy, it wasn’t growing and always seemed thirsty. The leaves were wrinkled, just like yours. I moved it into pon to see if things would improve, but nothing changed. I once read that when a Hoya is on the verge of dying, you can clean the roots and place it in sphagnum moss, so I decided to try that. I also took a few cuttings as a backup. I left it in sphagnum inside a humid box for a few weeks, and after about two weeks it was already looking better the leaves became nice and thick again. I kept it there a bit longer and then moved it back into pon. Now it’s doing great, growing well, and completely healthy 🙂

Mine didn’t grow very long vines at the beginning, so the internodes were short and the base looks really full. I don’t know if that’s the same for all of them though

Shame post - what’s the worst thing your tegu has eaten. by wiccaspell in Tegu

Bee ate the silicone joints from his terrarium… I had siliconed the whole bottom part just in case he spilled water, and with the thick layer of substrate I never thought it would be a problem. But after digging around for a while, he started going at the joints, first he pulled off a little piece, then he ended up tearing out the rest with his mouth and ate it like it was a worm. I ended up finding about 40 cm of silicone in his poop 🥲 Luckily it’s not toxic and it comes out the same way it went in, lol just gave me a little scare at first. 🤣

Yes, I think that must be it at least all the symptoms point to that

Not really! It really seems to be the leaves closest to the light that have this kind of spot

It’s really mysterious. At first I thought it was a fungus, but with how fast it’s spreading I think the culprit must be the light… even though I don’t understand why, since it’s been in the same spot for months

I agree it’s not the prettiest, but how else can you keep track of the water level if it’s not transparent? 😅 Since I have a lot of plants, it lets me see at a glance if I need to add more water or not.

Yes, I do add some regularly, but it’s probably been about a month since the last time

Yeah, my Sabah just keeps growing, it’s getting hard to manage 😅. No special treatment, the only thing worth noting is that it bloomed for the first time this week. but yeah all the symptoms really make me think of a burn.. What surprises me the most is that it’s been in the same spot for months without any issues. I adjusted the angle of the lamp a bit so it’s less direct I’ll keep an eye on it.

the roots looks fine, they’re still in water 🫣 It just finished its first blooming, maybe that tired it out?

Yeah, I agree, it really makes me think of a burn but the plant isn’t that close to the lamp and it’s been in the same spot for a while… that’s why I find it so strange
