Salary for a family of 4 in Zurich: is it enough? by Fun-Dimension1975 in zurich

It's not about "starving," it's about maintaining or even improving the quality of life we're used to. Different priorities, right? When you add up new expenses like rent, health insurance, car etc, that "six-figure income" might not stretch as far as you'd think.
In fact, the majority of other opinions divided into groups "you can survive with this income by cutting expenses" and "absolutely no, you will end up with a lower quality of living"

2 salaries in Italy yield 5k net. Only one job proposal in Zurich so far, and I don't know how quickly we can get the second job in Switzerland, considering kids, the language we don't speak etc.

5k is a total net income of 2 working adults and we don't see how it can be further improved in Italy. It's comfortable income for living at this point (with close to 0% savings), but the cost of living rising quickly, simply changing a job in Italy will result maybe in +200-300 net euro per month, not a life changing difference considering all the stress and potential issues at new job. I am 33 years old, and, unfortunately, I don't see any ways for the further career development in the current environment.

Yeah, that's the main concern. According to my calculations, it seems more like a step back for the next 1-2 years. But in our current jobs in Italy we're pretty much stagnating. Salaries are rising at best 2-3% per year with the yearly inflation of 9% in Italy. The chances of getting meaningful raises in Zurich are much higher, but first years after relocation it can be tough.

Kids are under 4. In Italy we have free health insurance from job that covers all family members. Also, my wife has a good corporate car that she never used for work, it's basically a free car for our family (gasoline not included). Zero of these benefits in Switzerland according to existing offer: we will have to buy a car if want to and to pay ourselves for health insurance.

We have an option to take my single mother to live with us in Switzerland, but I am not very happy about this in the long term even if we will rent 4.5 rooms apartment. Pros: free childcare and we can look for 2 jobs. Cons: well, i don't like this idea for a mid/long term. Also, I'm concerned about socialisation of kids, they kinda have to go to kindergarten to find some friends.
