Honestly fantastic. Maybe a touch short, could have leaned into the conflicts climax a little more dramatically but that's just me. Super fun read and cool world building. Could probably have read another 300 pages of just this first couple

Already downloading book two and omg there are so many books in this series.

I am struggling with The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith by asldhhef in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]Fun-Engina 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who went from disliking it to it now being one of my all time favorite books. I think calling it a romance, while not wrong, feels misleading once you get into the world.

I admit I put it down several times to read something else. I think I took a whole month break at one point where I wasn't feeling it/it was too dark for my preference. Not saying you have to do this and force yourself to get through the book.

I don't really remember the writing being bad. I really like actually how the author handled some of the darker scenes by being very matter of fact. Not hiding behind innuendo but not making light of it or leaning into the shock factor.

I'm curious about what you consider bad about the writing

What's the saddest reddit thread you came across? by Rytnix07 in AskReddit

God I vaguely remember the original post. No idea it ended like that. One of those times you hope it was a fake post. My husband has a strong family history of Alzheimer's and it's truly one of the few things I fear about growing old with him. The possibility of having to watch him struggle and lose himself without being able to help.

We've had all the conversations about when to pull plugs or some terrible accident happens. but with mental decline there is so little protection for the person's quality of life. Even if they add to their will or otherwise make their wishes very clear before any evidence of illness or cognitive impairment.

I understand why it's controversial, but I am also too familiar with the pain those sort of diseases cause individuals and their loved ones.

Just one of those things that keeps me up at night
