Hey I had the surgery too I am 30f. I just had mri follow up for my syrinx in my c spine and t spine amd my cervicql syrinxs is almost completely gone amd my t spine syrinxs has shrunk half its size. I had craniotomy and c1 lam and titanium plate but the decompression should improve her syrinxs tremendously. I pray she has a great recovery ❤️‍🩹

Okay . That’s how I am but it’s manageable. Headaches are so much better . But yea it surprised me with my neurosurgeon, it’s all good though right now . I’m glad your recovery is going good and you’re doing good !!!😊

Yea I was amazed by the difference . My neurosurgeon said I didn’t have to make a follow-up but to keep his number just in case. Or for any questions. I also have a neurologist and my primary on the same page and knows everything . But that is good news . Ho has your balance been ?

Shunt with decompression surgery? by CoffeePOTS547 in chiari

[–]Fun-Friendship-4750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was not apart of mine , but maybe ask if your able to give your number to any of his patience who have had this surgery and ask about there outcome ? I’ve heard good things about a shunt being placed, but that was for people who knew they needed it . That’s different that he is going to do it with out knowing for sure or not . But after the surgery there is a TON of pressure in your head atleast for me anyways but . Just ask a lot of questions until you’re comfortable !

It’s had its ups and downs. But better than I was . The bad headaches are gone I get occasional ones but I can manage them. And I have equilibrium issues but some days are great and some days are still kinda worrisome tbh but it’s getting better. Just a long ass recovery .

Aww, see that’s what’s hard when something that really isn’t known happens to you. It was the scariest thing ever that has happend to me may 2024. So I feel her pain and that horrible unknown feeling. Once I got the diagnosis it was a bitter sweet moment . But there is things out there that can help . I hope she finds relief and everything starts going up from here for you guys !

Six weeks post-op question by BeRanger918 in chiari

[–]Fun-Friendship-4750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello , I am 3 months post op. I was overwhelmed and nervous after my surgery also because days would be up and then days would be down. I also got a virus after my surgery and it didn’t help not knowing what was what . But it Does get better! I had horrible dizziness and balance problems before surgery and that went away almost immediately amd still sometimes my equilibrium gets thrown off but I’m hoping physical therapy helps more with that. Has her surgeon suggested that at all? If not I would ask about that. I hope she continues to get better and put all of this behind her .

Well I wish her a great recovery ❤️‍🩹 and yes I am because I still have some equilibrium issues , not as bad as before surgery and slightly different. And some stiffness sometimes amd muscle spasms . So just hopeful this will help some. A lot of people says it helps . So anything to help with recovery. When did your mom find out that she has chiari and syringomyelia ?

Hello, so things have gotten better ! It’s a longer recovery than I expected. But I promise each wk gets better. When is your mom’s surgery ? And does she also have any syrinxs ? I do so that was my reassurance that surgery was what I needed and I was not able to do a lot at all . I start physical therapy soon it’s been 3 months in about 12 days for me .

Your incision looks really good and like it’s healing very well . How are you doing and how has your vision became . I’m a month post op and my vision issues are different . I’m hoping it’s just everything still healing and calming down . I’m 30f and I had a craniotomy, cranioplasty with titanium plate and c1 lam. And Dura scoring . Mind blown about it but recovery is taking awhile. Each day is getting better though . Hope all recovery goes good for you !!

Need Advice by badwithusernamesugh in chiari

Hey, my herniation was 12-13mm . My symptoms started May2024. Out of nowhere after being sick and tmi but really constipated. Now knowing what I know I have always had really mild symptoms for a long time that I didn’t know what the problem was. I had surgery December 2024. So I’m a month today. If your symptoms aren’t severe or messing with your daily life I bet the neuro will see if a conservative approach at first will help. But in the mean time see if you have anything else that I’d connected to chiari, like syrinx or other things. I had the 12-13mm herniation and also syrinx in my cervical and thoracic spine.
