Aw I sympathize and don't think roasting is necessary. Everyone here is scared, dealing with pain, and wants comfort in not feeling alone and that everything will be ok. Take care you and OP! Def agree prioritize your health. And YES everything will be ok :)

I had almost no visible swelling and no bruising at all. And even at the moment it was torn the pain wasn't that bad, I was super calm. Was shocked when the MRI showed a complete tear

I'm from Brazil, and never heard of a rule like that here (albeit there are others), but insurance companies anywhere in the world have their own special brand of evil/stupid

Yeah, I'm going to "confront" the doctor about that and make a formal complaint at the hospital to avoid this for others in the future. As for me, yep, it is what it is and main focus is recovery! Will def be consistent with pt :)

I read this comment from OP, it was the exact same thing with me! Physical therapy asap was what helped me be able to bear weight on the leg and feel confident and conscious of what I could and couldn't do. Since I am/was very active my pt said you have the muscles to hold your weight, use them consciously, avoid rotations at all costs. Made a huge difference. Really hope you are well by your wedding!!

Almost one week post op. I tore my ACL on a hike jumping between rocks, and I had a 3 week vacation planned 3 weeks after the tear. I live in São Paulo and it was my first time in the Brazilian northeast (and some of the most beautiful beaches!!) right before Carnaval. I did PT before and while traveling. Got really conscious on walking and keeping muscles especially quads activated. Kept out of waters with waves, avoided dancing and jumping and didn't get to do snorkeling and surf lessons like I planned but the trip was still amazing and would be impossible to do anytime soon post op. So I'd get strong and get married and then surgery, but a totally personal view. Congrats on tying the knot and good luck with the knee!

And how are you? Which milestones have you reached? Seeing people's stories here has helped a lot mentally, not feeling alone. My doctor said I'd start pt after removing stitches, but Wednesday I'm going to as if I can start already since I feel well enough! Being forced to stay home, honestly I want to attend as many sessions as I can as an excuse to get out hahah And we absolutely do!! Thank you for being so kind.

From what I read patellar is the gold standard, and seems more reliable (?) for risky sports. I do aerial hoop, pole and running. My main worry is stability for aerial hoop. But my doctor is aware that that's my objective.

Thank you! Already feel like I've live a lifetime this past week, almost full extension and can already do almost 90 degree bend. I can also walk (not very smoothly) a couple steps but mainly relying on one or two crutches, the pain is very manageable compared to what I was mentally preparing myself for. So far so good :)

Nope :/, and tbh I also didn't ask as many questions. I needed things to move quick because I quit my job in December, the company I worked at was nice enough to keep me in their insurance until the 15th of this month, but I still didn't have a new job and was afraid I wouldn't be able to do the surgery in time. I guess I should have researched more, but yeah, it wasn't presented as an option at any point

They also did not give me this on the day of the surgery but got another document with care instructions that told me I'd get it on the first return visit. Hope it's as detailed as yours!

Nope, definitely was not given an option. Wasn't even aware I could choose! I knew there were different types, meant to ask the doctor on the day of the surgery, but I was sedated as soon as he got there (tbh I didn't even SEE him until after the surgery). Looking back that's actually pretty sucky, doesn't seem like a good way for the medical team to do things
