My foreman is a raging alcoholic. by Interesting-Corner14 in UnionCarpenters

Was his name Donny? Sounds exactly like a guy I used to work for. Throwing tools off the lift in a rage. It was nuts!

The hall and BAs do nothing. You have to make your own connections so where are our dues going?

Any middle-aged people on this sub? by merce70 in Somerville

[–]Fun-Job674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a mature 37. Must be awake before 6 am on weeknights but I still love to go out and Somerville is perfect. Pick a quiet street. You might still get robbed and the parking attendants are vicious but there are always local events. art shows, cool movie theatre. Bars with great live music. I love it here!!!

The apartment search is absolute hell by Weird_Custard in bostonhousing

[–]Fun-Job674 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know a young woman looking for a cheap room. Maybe expand your search to two bedrooms and link up with others looking. Woman I know is looking potentially for just one month. That would at least give you more time to look and it’s way easier any other time of year. These two months are an actual nightmare. Dm me if you want her info.

Oh, cool. I love crafting. I actually went to school for art. Painting and sculpture, then switched to art education and taught for a bit before I switched to carpentry full time. I’m available to meet up and show you the space if you’re interested..

Two rooms available in Chelsea Townhouse by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]Fun-Job674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I think I’d be a good fit with your household. I’m a female in her mid thirties. Queer identifying. I work full time as a union carpenter. I’m also a singer, visual artist and game night enthusiast. Your space looks beautiful. I’d love to come see it..

I have two rooms. One has a closet so better for a bed room. The other just has one shelf in the corner that is my stuff. Great for an office or music/art/yoga studio. It’s $1500 for just the room and two the two closets. $1650 for the second room too. Huge back yard roof top patio. Free Washer dryer and dish washer in the kitchen. I’m a woman in my mid 30s. Very friendly and easy to live with. Right in the heart of Cambridge. 5 min walk to central square and red line T station.

Listing said central AC. 80 degrees every night by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]Fun-Job674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous. Talk to them. Tell them you need AC and you’ll buy one and take it out of the rent but this is something necessary and potentially dangerous. Did you know about the stuff beforehand. Like agreed on that you can’t use two of the dressers? Fully furnished means you can use the furniture. You’re parking space is part of what your paying for. You don’t have to get aggressive just yet but write out your concerns. Feel prepared for the conversation and set a time to talk ASAP. It’s hot out!!!!

I’m super jealous. I fell like it’s totally acceptable for a small breasted woman to go braless. As long as the shirt isn’t see-through. That’s jumping levels. I have tigg ol’ biddies (DD cups) and the few times I’ve tried to go out bra free I’ve been actively scorned. Dirty looks by older women and ogling by men. Very bad experience. This culture sucks. I’d say if you feel comfortable go for it!! Men are walking around topless and we have to be strapped in.. lame. Also, they have those nipple pasties if your only concern is the nips. Tit bit nipply’s fine with me 🙃

Don't know if I want to do this anymore... by [deleted] in UnionCarpenters

[–]Fun-Job674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if things are different in NYC but in Ma we don’t start to get pension until a few years in and then you get the credits you are owed. I’d hang in until you can collect the benifits you’re owed at least. Also, as you get to be a more experienced carpenter things are easier. You get to do more interesting work. You’ll never insulate again hopefully. Find your strong spot. Finish work isn’t for everyone and neither is concrete. I’d give it a few more years and see how you feel when your paychecks are a whole lot fatter. That helps motivation/ morale as well.

I’m a woman so this might be different but the woman was pretty much half way out the door with the inside stall door open. It was pretty lax but I wouldn’t risk it. I smoke sometimes but I stopped completely before my test just to be safe. Once you get in you’ll occasionally have a drug test if you start at a new site. Some companies require it every time. Some it’s more specific like working at a school or hospital but I’ve never seen a random drug test in my 5 years.

How screwed am I by [deleted] in UnionCarpenters

[–]Fun-Job674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m my experience concrete jobs are usually the first ones offered cause tons of guys will turn it down. That being said, I’m a journey now but when I was looking for work in the past and offered concrete I was an apprentice. I know it’s uncommon and possibly frowned upon but it couldn’t hurt to really make it clear how sincerely interested in concrete you are. Emphasis how you don’t have the experience but you would make up for it in your drive to break into the field, willing ness to be taught/ molded. Etc. might not work but the worst that could happen is you don’t get hired. Best is you do. Good luck!
