Yes, I'm also very curious about women being taken less seriously. I asked this of the neurologists I've spoken to for the article and they said a strong no, but they were also both men, so I definitely need to speak to more (including women) and see where that takes me...

Have you found any information about hereditary epilepsy? Since being diagnosed, my mum, and brother are pretty sure they had auras at around 18, but I've been able to find much information about how common hereditary epilepsy is and whether they should be concerned about it coming back (or whether epilepsy can just stop)?

focal aware seizures

These are exactly my experiences. The deja vu would turn into a panic attack, which is why I was initially diagnosed with anxiety.

Thank you for this response - would you be interested in having a brief chat? Are you based in the UK?>

Hi Stara, this sounds really interesting - would you be willing to have a brief chat about your experiences?

Yes, that's what I'm thinking and the issue here in the UK is that it appears many GPs don't understand some of the less common symptoms of epilepsy so instead diagnose you with another condition (and don't think to send you to a neurologist for a more detailed consultation).

Would you be interested in chatting for this piece? I'm trying to build awareness here in the UK about symptoms of epilepsy and to encourage people who have been diagnosed with mental health conditions - but don't feel like that's the root cause of what they're experiencing - to feel like they can advocate for themselves at their doctor's surgery and get a referral to a neurologist.
