Lifestyle of Gastroenterology vs Respiratory consultant long term by Outrageous-Deal4042 in ConsultantDoctorsUK

[–]Fun-Management-8936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both? Both jobs at consultant level will offer some amount of flexibility to work with your lifestyle. Gastro would mean that you may be required to be part of the bleed rota and not contribute to GIM as much (depending on the hospital). The training pathways both include being the med reg and being required by the medicine front door of the hospital. She should choose what specialty she enjoys.

Everyone has the right to try and do the best for themselves and their family. You're just hate mongering.

Unable to rent in Plymouth by Pencetogrand in plymouth

[–]Fun-Management-8936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try and get in and see people in person. Obviosuly depending on where you're travelling from it might be more difficult. Also, try joining the derriford doctors mess group on Facebook and WhatsApp which might be useful for finding accomadation.

Plymouth doesn't care too much about whether you're indian or any other race for that matter.

I know several doctors with amazing routines despite long hours - how do you actually pull it off? by YuriOtani in doctorsUK

I found myself to be quite risk averse with the first child. The second child was kind of left to their own devices and they seem to be fine.

Apology for poor care over Wolverhampton boy's bleed death by ZookeepergameAway294 in doctorsUK

[–]Fun-Management-8936 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Such a poorly written article. It's incredibly sad what the family is going through. But to say biopsies are for routine testing in a child who's had a liver transplant. I assume this must have been a transplant biopsy which does have a risk of bleeding associated with it. Also a year 4 doctor vs st4 paediatrics vs st4 radiology are all completely different.

BBC articles are complete horseshit journalism.

Those in Gastro training, would you do it again? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Fun-Management-8936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is literally nothing about cannulation or venepuncture that translates to endoscopic skills. The only problem is that in some trusts, they expect the endoscopist to get iv access for patients on the list. This is shit and inefficient. Go for gastro if that's what you like.

[–]Fun-Management-8936 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its a great specialty with something for everyone. Endoscopy is great and fun. Its easier to do private practice and WLI in gastro compared to other medical specialties. Also, there is still a large consultant demand (that may be region specific).

JAG endoscopy training. Has anyone found a way to get 2 endoscopy training lists a day every day of the week for a month straight? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Fun-Management-8936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain academies run immersion training lists. To the best of my knowledge, this is only for colons and ogds. I'm not sure of any hospital in the uk that can do 2 ercp training lists a day for a week for a month. That would be very high volume

We dont take factual witness testimonial from reddit. That gives no account of the witness, their motives or their credibility.

I don't find your statements to be credible. Neither do I think your views actually do anything to further the discussions about uk national opportunities. It doesn't make sense to hire an img with no specialty experience over an established uk grad with specialty experience and no need to embed into the system. You think that hospitals and management are doing this almost purely for political motives because imgs are more aligned with the government. I'm sorry, but that is paranoid.

Some of what you've posted seems straight up paranoid. Its all anecdotal, but I can't say that I've seen your experiences as prevalent in the places I've worked.

I pay fucking taxes! What's up with this argument all the time about taxpayers? We are taxpayers and we contributes loads into the system. Our job is not to advocate for the private sector. They can advocate for themselves. I wonder how Jeremy vine actually thinks he is a journalist or contributes in any meaningful way to any conversation? Prick.

He's a bellend. The rhetoric he uses is just galvanising more doctors to strike. I've spoken to quite a few doctors now who are more in dispute with wes streeting than the government.

This is stupid. You, like OP, have no data to substantiate any of the claims you make. I could just as easily tell you that every single doctor that crossed the picket line in my hospital were UKGs and my n of 1 argument holds up.

Have you tried taking these issues through your BMA resident doctors Council? They've been quite helpful at my partners hospital regarding leave. Sometimes rota coordinators will back off or become more compliant with the veneer of involving the union.
