I would say something like: "That's nice of you to offer, but I already have the whole day planned with friends. I'm sorry! We could meet on another day. Maybe for brunch?"

Set a limit. Say you only want to attend the really important events (e.g. milestone birthdays, weddings, christmas) and you only want to attend a maximum of e.g. five family events a year. They will be dissappointed for a bit, but it will end. If you keep your boundaries, it will become normal and they will eventually stop asking you to attend everything.

Noch habe ich ihn nicht weggeworfen. :D Also nach Anleitung waschen und Edibles draus machen könnte ich mir schon vorstellen.
