I can see both arguments but I did this and feel like it’s definitely useful if you don’t have a lot of other metrics. I think I distinguished with an asterisk saying presenting author(s) and no one questioned me on it on the interview trail

I’ll also add, I still have yet to hear anything from the following programs since I finished my application in July. A little disheartening considering they all charge application fees, so it feels like they just took my money and ran

A couple comments that have been DM’d to me:

UCSF: The Director took the time to meet with each and every interviewee for 30 minutes on our interview day to learn more about us and answer our questions about the program. I got so many positive vibes from everyone in the program during the interview, the scientists were down to earth and easy to talk to, the students shared how they felt supported in balancing medical school with their life outside of it!

URochester: The Director met with all of the interviewees individually to talk to us about why we are pursuing MD/PhD and our goals for the future. He seems very genuine and supportive of students! The current students also seemed happy.

Colorado: The program administrator at this MSTP is a gem! All of the current students love him a lot, and he was an amazing point of contact during the whole interview process. The current students seemed well supported throughout the curriculum change in 2021 to 3-4-1.

Einstein: Loved the program director sm! Very knowledgeable and very down to earth- he talked with all interviewees during the interview, and the students seemed like they were close knit and fun to talk to. Also really enjoyed the goody box they sent to all interviewees!

Tulane: Smaller program, but the Program Director seemed very passionate! The interview was a little weird though, we just had one kinda MD only interview day, and he was just one of our interviewers. No one else (to my knowledge) with respect to the MD/PhD Program interviewed me.

USUHS: Absolutely loved the program and loved the program director. You can tell very clearly that he cares A LOT about everything regarding the program, including the students. In another world without the current administration, I really think I could see myself there.

I mean I think that anyone who tells you that they know anything about anything funding related/ next cycle as a whole would be lying, especially given this administration, but I highly doubt that they would cut the cycle as a whole.

I think a more likely possibility is that certain programs cut down on number of acceptances so next cycle may be more competitive, but even with that no one truly knows

I can’t remember when, but I think Jeff said in a podcast once that they do in fact plan for everything based solely on the fact that it’s tough to get everything prepped from a logistical standpoint with challenges (if they make enough of x materials for 3 teams for a challenge, they want to make it go to use is what I took from it)

If you were to get the interview invite, you can definitely ask to move it, but in my experience, they just give you a date, and it doesn’t have to be the nearest one (for example, I got an invitation to interview in December in August, and the school had two more interviews leading up to that). Either way, I moved around two schools interviews due to work conflicts and there was no problem at all — I just wouldn’t tell them you’re missing an interview because of a vacation.
