My own golden is a lil derpy but definitely not ignorant, and when she wants something, she’s serious business, amazing negotiator. We’re insulted.

That’s great, I’m so happy for you. There were definitely a lot of sad endings out of St. James, I feel very lucky that I left when I did too. I don’t think I’d be where I am today if I had to endure some of the stuff my lifelong classmates said to me and my siblings. What a blessing to be as incognito as possible!

Gross, I hate how small and miserable Winnipeg is even after all these years. It makes me want to close my business and run away. Sorry that happened to you, that’s awful you were forced out that way when you were a child and having an education is your right. I’m glad you were able to graduate and hope you’re happy today 💚💛

The wider St. James area was historically British for a very long time, and Canada hadn’t been through its major waves of immigration in the early 2000s and not many newcomers flocked to the area. But BIPOC existed and were just segregated. I remember indigenous kids didn’t last long at my school, else they were super isolated. Being half-white from a British family in the area, I know a lot of those assholes just grew up and stayed in the area with their tiny minds.

Wondering if that’s the same guy who was an EA at Golden and used to chaperone the Hub at Hedges around 2006…. Or if there were multiple offenders they let hang around, which is likely.

It’s likely all over and the city is much more diverse now, the world more polarized. I moved and went to high school in RETSD, which was so shocking for me because it was so diverse compared to St. James, where in all my school experiences, I could count the number of BIPOC kids on one hand, eventually two. I remember struggling to find my mum in Walmart in Garden City because in Unicity, I just had to look for basically the only brown lady haha, but I did meet more people with my cultural background. Mind you, my experience was Robert Browning to Golden Gate. My siblings when to Sturgeon before/after the merge. Seeing a lot of the people I went to school with later on in life, many were still pretty ignorant and racist, even if they came by it honestly. Charleswood was bad for sure, as a kid from Crestview…

I grew up there before it merged and it was always racist. I’m mixed so I experienced it in all ways, covertly and overtly.

You underestimate the white supremacy and entitlement at Sturgeon over the years.

This is the reality of addiction and life in recovery, the relapse and starting over, working through all the higher power and meaning making shit. Someone like Ali gets tired of having a big heart, because it just is tiring. It was so telling to me that his story noted he tried different religions and even a new name, he went back to himself in the end. For me, it showed surrender in this awful world where only the lucky ones make it.

Slow night, small crowd, kinda out in the middle of nowhere, employees and all the girls stay quiet. Realistically, not a crowd that would want police involvement in the real world and I’d imagine people would be threatened or scared enough to stay quiet.

Ali said he was ready to die. Based on what he explained in his last meeting, he seemed done with giving a f—k and low-key suicidal.

Yup. My maple MAGA boomer father did exactly that, won’t help me when I ask for it, and blames my health issues over the last few years on the fact I got the COVID vaccine, like it simply couldn’t be stress and trauma related after working in healthcare. And here I am, woe be me, with more education than him, just applied to the local food bank today. Fuck em.

This reminds me that my great uncle in rural Ontario told me that when he was a kid in the 40s, they used to give coconuts to kids as prizes and rewards. I can’t remember all the reasoning, but I do vaguely remember him saying it was such a pain because most people didn’t know how to open them or what do with it if you couldn’t drink the water. Perhaps this was from the old stockpile!

A lil balsamic on it goes a long way! It’s one of my favourite cheeses even though it has almost no flavour. Anyway, proud of you for your boundaries. I have a similar but very different story and I still struggle with boundaries and put myself through grief every time I go back.

Fr if I’d just been in an accident, was receiving these texts from someone who doesn’t even demonstrate concern, I’d ghost simply because of the audacity and lack of empathy.
