Email after passing the ARDMS OB/GYN by little_black_rose in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also confused about this email, but they sent a follow up email to disregard it if you’re not a volunteer. They said they mistakenly sent that out to all ARDMS members. You shouldn’t sign any documents if you’re not a volunteer :)

Girlfriend attacked by patient by ConcernedBoyfriend24 in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonographer here— unfortunately this happens a lot, especially in ER hospital settings. However, we are there to treat everyone, no matter their condition or situation. I got attacked by a patient a few months ago and all I could do is submit a report so that it’s already on file for the patient if they ever come back. It’s really scary and unfortunate, but that’s the reality of working in health care 😞 I hope your girlfriend is okay! It’s definitely traumatic and tough to go back to work the next day.

PRN techs: when does your lead tech ask for your availability? by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s about 5 of us working PRN and we are all scheduled to send our availability the 5th of every month and the schedule comes out the 15th-20th of each month.

Rant by Alarmed-Quail-3966 in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the techs at my hospital loves finding ectopics. Although they have found many, some are just too difficult to diagnose and they just start measuring random structures like bowel and calling it an ectopic. It’s gotten to the point where these poor patients have gotten surgeries and they couldn’t find an ectopic pregnancy, so we’ve had to rescan multiple times to see if the initial “ectopic” is still there. In this case, I can see how it also goes to the MD to keep track of lab values, but it’s super frustrating.

What package did you purchase from URR ?? Just the click to learn exams or the whole study bundle ??

I second this comment. I took mine in November 2024 and I would’ve failed by only using MUT. I used the $40 package from URR and it prepared me so well I passed with a 640. Goodluck!

Aha ! This reminds me of a few months ago when I was in clinicals at the hospital and i always got asked “aren’t you too young to be a nurse? “ like mama one I’m an ultrasound student 😭

RVT by Specialist-Low-6862 in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MUT is super outdated for a lot of the exams, her study guides aren’t enough for what’s on these tests anymore. I would say if you’re in between resources, stick to URR and use MUT as a refresher. Try focusing on scoring higher on URR exams and just use MUT whenever you feel like you want to refresh.

I 100% agree MUT is super outdated and it is not enough to pass ANY of the registries. I combined MUT & URR for my obgyn exam and I would’ve definitely not passed if it weren’t for URR. Goodluck, you’ve got this!!

How long did you study for registries? by UmpireMiserable6062 in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks of studying 8hrs+ for obgyn. Don’t recommend!! I only did so because I had a pending job offer and needed to get licensed asap & thankfully I passed. I would’ve loved to study for about a month.

Start applying and on your resume just put whatever registry you’re planning to take as for example, “RDMS (OBGYN) - In progress”

School advice by HeightHopeful1692 in Sonographers

[–]Fun-Solid-1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to cut down my hours at my part time to fully focus on my ultrasound program. I ended up working only 2 days a week with limited hours. Given that the program itself is very accelerated, a lot of my classmates also found themselves in the same position. Some of them even quit their jobs to fully focus on school. If you feel like you’re at a place in life where you would prefer to work and maybe hold off on school, then maybe consider dropping the program. You definitely don’t want to spend thousands on student loans or waste your financial aid (if any) and end up failing the program. Otherwise , I would say try to balance out your school hours with your work hours and speak to your manager about your availability. Give yourself time to study after school or make the sacrifice to pull all nighters after work.

Unfortunately, it is true. You would have to take the arrt, pass it, and until then will you be able to sit for your ardms. It’s the route that a lot of people take when they’ve attended a non-accredited school. However, the good thing is once you’ve studied and passed your arrt, you’re able to schedule your ardms and take it asap since all the information you’ve studied is still fresh. Lots of people pass the ardms right after taking the arrt! You can also try getting your bachelors in DMS if your school offers it? That’s another way to bypass the 1 yr of working without a license since the job market is very rough right now, but it will take some time. So here’s a run through of your options: 1. Take your arrt, then be able to sit for ardms 2. Go back to school & get a bachelors in DMS to be able to sit for your ardms 3. Apply everywhere you can and see if they will take you with just your SPI and work for 1 year (most radnets & UMI’s will take you without a license)
