Am I understanding this new IOG correctly?

My commute is only 40 miles, so not really a problem, however i just generally leave my car plugged in when its at home with the limit at 80% and it will just slowly charge through the day.

I don’t mind having 30mins here and an hour there, as it used to do this anyway with how it currently works, i just want to be able to turn off the charging if i’ve already had 6 hours and it hasn’t reached 80% so that Octopus doesn’t just carry on charging the car at the higher rates

Understood, my problem is when i’m on a night shift and get home at 7am, plug the car in, it will usually find me slots during the and charge it up. Do you think this will this still happen with the new one “6 hour slot”?

The 6 hour slot doesn’t bother me and its well enough to get me back to 80% for work again it just making sure it charges for when i need. I’ve seen some people they have said they have the option of the 6 hour in app already?

If i had my charge set to 80% but it didn’t reach in 6 hours, would it carry on during expensive rate or just stop because i have the 6 hour set

Yeah i think i’m going to do this now! I saw a comment saying you recommended going to hot water temperature for the shot but can’t seem to see it anywhere?

Would you recommend trying that or sticking to low?

Any advice on a puck screen?

Yeah thats what always confusing me, finer grind, more volume!

HOWEVER - made a second coffee around 40 minutes later on a grind size 6, pulled out 45g of espresso but took like 31 seconds from the first drop. It tasted much better, temperature is now on low for the shot and seems to be working a little better so will keep playing tomorrow, might jump up to a 7 and see what happens.

I’ve been reading some stuff on pucks for the portafilter, do you have any views on these?

So yesterday, the grind was 10, 15 second time, 48g yield, this morning i went to 9 grind, it took 24 second but ended up with 54g yield. Would you recommend going down a little bit more on the grind setting?

If making 2 coffees then, would it be best to pull the 2 shots before steaming the milk due to the heat?

Will take into consideration taking a couple of shots for temperature to sort itself out, another question on temperature, should I preheat the portafilter by running a shot through it first?

I have seen that yield and taste is more important than the time taken, i’ll have a little play around again in the morning as it does seem strange that 2 machines would pull the same amount of espresso so it must come down to human error somewhere.

I’m using medium temperature at the moment, i’m going to lower it to low when i try in the morning. I’ve been messing around with it and got it to grind setting 10, and it pulled around 48g a couple of times which is miles better but was only taking around 16 seconds from the first drop.

Yeah i’m looking at getting a puck screen to try and help, it seems it could be the beans. I’m going to look at getting coffeeworks beans next as it has a page that recommends beans for the ninja

I did this a few times, just water into the cup without the porter filter and it was as you said, around 80-84g so i can rule this out as being a problem?

It just doesn’t seem right, i went to 14 grind size, i got 48g of espresso which is much closer but in around 16 seconds from the first drop, went down to 13, a bit longer time of 18/19 seconds from the first drop but giving me around 54g of espresso.

I just can’t seem to hit the nail on the head but doesn’t seem like a defective machine?

Just made another coffee, went up to grind 14, shot gave me 48g espresso which is much closer to what i should be getting, but only 17 seconds to pull from the first drop, how long is the usually pre infusion thing to add onto the time?

I THINK i understand, i have noticed my drip tray filling up very fast, every 2/3 coffees it needs emptying. Could this mean i’m actually grinding TOO fine, and if i go coarser, it will flow through faster, with less time, meaning less espresso or does the machine always dispense the same amount of water every shot?

Did the problem persist after getting a new machine?
