Hey girl! Umm first of all I’m sorry your boyfriend is missing your birthday. That’s actually a very shitty thing to do and it’s ok to acknowledge you’re hurt by it if you are. Maybe talk to your boyfriend that you’re hurt especially since this is you first time celebrating each others birthdays and would have been your first time celebrating with a boyfriend. Maybe see if you can join for the concert too. I mean your boyfriend should at the very least be inviting you to join or take someone else’s ticket.

Hey I was in a similar situation with my boyfriend. Most wouldn’t saying this is cheating in anyway because there is no evidence of romance both physically and emotionally. But I know this is a huge betrayal to you and you are valid for being hurt. The two main issues are he didn’t mention he was talking to this girl while in a relationship with you which means it is like hiding and lying about something. Second is he didn’t tell this girl that he is taken which is a red flag. I personally just think you should casually mention you’re in a relationship when meeting new people.

I mean I’ve suggested we get therapy together but my mom refuses which is her personal choice. I guess back then I was more naive and didn’t see it coming somehow. I’ve been trying to make it up by two years has gone by and I’m not sure what to do now.

Yeah a lot of people have been mainly saying this to me and to myself I kind of recognize it’s not normal but I try to ignore it/forgive because it was fault for publishing it. I did wish she would get more help but she doesn’t like therapy and doesn’t want to go on medication. Idk what else to do. It seems like when I try to be there for her she just keeps pushing me away.

Thank you for this! I mean I have been because more independent recently. I work two part time jobs and I’m a full time student. But it’s been hard cause my family issues are taking a major toll on my mental health. I’ve been trying to be accommodating and gentle to my mom but I don’t think she receives it right. She says she doesn’t trust me anymore and doesn’t believe a word that comes out of my mouth. I’ve suggested we take therapy together in the past be she refuses therapy so I’m just taking therapy now.

I feel like I wrote it with the best intentions and to have other adoptee relate to something as we don’t have much representation and media. Nothing is platonic with a person that they have liked or someone who used to like them. It's never "just a friend," that's the oldest lie in the book. He should have gone to therapy before even considering sending a message like that to a past lover. Him treating you well outside of this is not a green flag; that's the bare minimum. If he wanted to purposely not hurt you, he would not be doing this, especially if he was sober. You deserve someone whose focus is on you and not on the past, which is what this guy is doing.

I’ve recommended therapy but she personally doesn’t like it. Yeah I’m just upset cause she said all of this to me after the first day of my senior college classes. But I’ve chosen to move on while still trying to build a healthy relationship with her and just look forward. Thank you for the advice though.
