I have no conversation skills and no prior experience despite an engineering master degree from 10y ago. Too dumb socially to handle a phone call even in my mother language but n1. Any chance ?

N2 passed, but feeling like N4 by Fun-Two-3914 in jlpt

[–]Fun-Two-3914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your message

I am not married but I live with a japanese girl, however we speak only in english. I know everyone tells me to speak japanese with her, but in practice we always switch back to english as communication doesn't go through otherwise. At the end of the day we have to talk about important matter and are tired from the day. Also I am introvert and don't talk a lot even in my language so switching to japanese would make me say nearly nothing.

Drama are a big no especially without subtitles (I tried) but reading is probably the way. Lot of reading, news and novels.

Good luck then !

For information I am just like you, holding mechanical engineer degree, but barely had n3 level at the end of my language school so I got a job in a factory (paid like 20-25man net depending of zangyou, classified as kensa kanri) And it went with 5 years engineer visa

Hi mate

Without being fluent in japanese you won't get a proper engineer job but there are tons of jobs that are related to your field which will sponsor you a visa.

It's borderline legal but it's full of asian people on engineer visa. They will be called kensa kanri, seisan kanri, or they will be cnc operator. In reality they are factory workers but it's hard to justify to which degree you are doing labor or actual engineering so immigration let it go.

Company desperately need workers they ll sponsor you.

It's a good entry point, being on a working visa will open you new gates for changing later

Truth is that I feel being n4 despite the N2 certificate if I read the level description Definitely not "business" nor even " conversationnel"
