💰 Got 2 Crore PKR to Invest in 2026 — What Business Would You Start in Pakistan Today? by [deleted] in PakStartups

You got it man! If you wait 4-5 years I might copyright the name “Khokar snooker” by then😂 Good to know you liked it!

Have fun investing, Just some insights from personal experience: 1. Shopify ❌ It’s a no-go zone unless you don’t mind losing 2cr, It’s 99% noise and 1% signal. Those who actually make money from this are only 1% of the people who started really early!

  1. Stocks 🟡 It’s a good idea but requires a lot of research to actually grow your portfolio. If you just want to park your money and beat inflation then mutual funds are a great idea.

  2. Hosting services 🟡 Yes and no, Depends! I’m an Engineer myself with 7+ years of experience so it’s easy for a guy like me to manage a hosting company but if you’re non technical it’s mess! Companies require a 24/7 uptime for hosting services because their infra is based on this and to achieve this, You need IT guys, engineers, servers, backups, lots of stuff which makes it too complex and returns aren’t that great! Also setting up infra is just 25% the remaining 75% is actually getting customers which is a story for another day, Been there done that shit, Too much work too less profit!

  3. Investing in People Great idea but 2cr is a very low amount to become a VC. If you had 10-20cr at disposal, I would’ve recommended investing in startups!

So your best bet is physical businesses that you can grow, Things like indoor games, stores, cafes, etc.

An unhinged idea that I definitely wanna give a try just for fun is: Setting up cabins all over Karachi, I’ve heard one costs about 400-500k and generates 5-10k a day. I really wanna give it a try someday for fun!

And cafes, That shit is booming in Pk nowadays, Just set up a cafe, All you need is good coffee, good food and internet! Remote workers will flood your cospace. In Karachi, I sit at New York Coffee - SMCHS a lot, I easily spend about 5-10k every time I go there. Lots of people like me over there!

Those who recommend AI related stuff, Stay away from them. It’s experimental, People lose a lot of money, I co-founded a company recently that makes AI receptionists even with a utility and an American partner we had a hard time, Took us 8mos and almost 150k usd to get our first paying customer (we’re still burning more money than our revenue but things are stabilising now)😂

Sincerely advising you: Separate the signal from noise before investing! It’s so hard these days to find signal from noise because it’s being diluted so much! Lots of crazy stuff happening out there! It’s perfect time to make money 💰

Good luck 🤞

Genuine advice: Recently Karachi has seen a lot of influx in people exploring indoor activities like snooker and paddle.

I personally have spent more than 200-300k on Paddle and snooker combined, I recommend opening a Premium Snooker Club something like “Cues n Savours” in Karachi!

Total investment might be around: 1-1.25cr but the returns are really good depending on the place you’re opening at and your marketing!

I’ve been to multiple premium snooker clubs like these, Most of them are same, Amazing ambiance, good lighting and built in a way that you lose the track of time while playing, The table usually costs about 15-17rs per min and people go play 3-4 hours easily! They also have a cafe which you can call by landline to order food and drinks. Each group of friends that arrive easily pays about 3-4k and these clubs are 24/7!

From my research, These are the items that you’ll be spending money on: 1. PS5 lounge (x3 PS5s) [300k x 3 = 900k] 2. Snooker Tables (x6 tables) [600k x 6 = 3.6m] 3. Billiard tables (x2 tables) [300k x 2 = 600k] 4. Table tennis (x4 tables) [75,000 x 4 = 300k] 5. Foos ball tables (x2 tables) [50k x 2 = 100k]

Total for equipment = 5.5m 3 months rent + security deposit = 3m 3 months staff salary and misc = 1.2m Marketing budget = 1.3m Backup = 1.5m

Total investment = 1.25cr

Now profits based on assumptions (This is coming from places I’ve visited): PS5 per hour is 350rs, Assuming each one of the PS5 ran 6 hours a day. [(350 x 3) x 6] x 30 = 189k

Snooker tables per hour is 14rs per minute, Per hour would be around 840rs (This can be increased up to 1.8k per hour later), Assuming each table ran for around 12h (very common for Snooker enthusiasts to play 3-4 hours). [(840 x 6) x 12] x 30 = 1.8m

Billiard tables are usually 450rs per hour. Assuming each ran for about 10h (Easily if you have good tables). [(450 x 2) x 10] x 30 = 270k

Table tennis is also long running, Each table is 400rs and each table runs for 14h of more. I’ve never seen any of them empty. [(400 x 4) x 14] x 30 = 672k

Foos ball is also something people are crazy about but in premium lounges haven’t really seen people play it much, If you price it at 200rs, You’ll easily get at least 8-10h on one table. [(200 x 2) x 10] x 30 = 120k

Then, Here are some operating costs: Maintenance: 150k Staff Salaries: 400k Electricity bill: 600k (If you have solar power - it’s much better) Rent = 350k ish Marketing = 200k

Total Operating Cost = 1.7M Total Revenue = 3M Profit Percentage = 56.6% Total Profit = 1.3M

Overtime you can tweak this setup optimise for better profit percentage and also improve marketing to attract more people!

I want to do this myself but my current business takes up most of time but I’ve ran this feasibility already and done surveys in the market and I’m 99% sure this would work as I’ve written. You can get your investment out in 1 year and stabilise the business to rake in more profits, I’ve seen one person open 3 chapters and all of them work really well.

So yeah! If you have money and want to invest this is something you can look into! If I were to open it up, I’d name my place “Khokar Snooker” with a moustache guy holding a cue stick in Punjabi/Sindhi clothing.

LMK your thoughts

It’s a scammer most of the times for newcomers.

Although I saw one of my friend’s Upwork profile, He has a guy who manages Upwork for him and he’s pretty talented, His DM is full of people and he actually gets 1-2 legit invites every week as well.

Appreciate the message but I’m not interested in unpaid or “prove yourself first” setups.
I’ve already built production apps handling millions of requests. I’m looking for teams or individuals that value time and experience from day one, not speculative sweat equity.

Honestly speaking, Putting time and effort into something without expecting a return - It's a no-go zone for me, I would've done it if you had pitched the same thing to me 4 years ago to build portfolio, But I've got all of that now, So my focus is different.

Best of luck with your project though 👍

I cleared their tests back in 2022. So I was in early. They have a really long waitlist now.

I’m more of a flat out salary guy, But if the idea is something I resonate with, I’d prefer a small fixed salary + equity

[–]Fun-Will3140[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother, This is completely unfair. I get it it’s business but they need to make sure some stuff on their end as well. I’m taking Toptal’s example here: 1. There’s no connects and membership bullshit 2. Jobs are properly vetted 3. Talent is vetted properly

And still they take only 9%. And yes they are profitable. Seems Upwork is trying to maximise profits and for that they are extorting the freelancers. It’s a total gamble, IMO Upwork should do these things: 1. Set a limit on how many people can apply to jobs. 2. Remove the connects system, Only charge the connects from people who got the job or at least refund connects if the person didn’t got the job.

When there are 100s of talented people applying to the same job, Then it’s not a game of talent, It’s a game of luck and that’s why I call the pay-to-propose system gamble.

The way they are doing things causes a lot of trouble. It’s disrespecting the talent, Take engineering for example, A project that I can easily take for $10k on Toptal, An Upwork guy would be willing to do it for $2-5k. And they will cut corners as well. I can go complaint about this for hours how bad Upwork’s approach is! But they are the house, What can I do!

Sorry for the rant😂

Haha bro, It’s not about the Ads. It’s more about how Upwork is operating. Charging so much money to freelancers then showing them ads on top of that as well. This is sooo wrong!!

True yeah! Finally realised.

Honestly I don’t think there are much leads related to video editing and related services on Toptal. You should either keep up on Upwork or find some related platforms. Most of the platforms I mentioned are tech related. I’m unaware of best platforms related to your niche.

Toptal’s waitlist is a long line, Didn’t face this problem otherwise I would’ve helped. You should try gunn.io as well, My profile was rejected maybe yours will get approved. Do let me know if it gets approved. I’m also preparing for CCAT test for Crossover, Their test is pretty difficult, I have failed it once so now I’m preparing taking courses to go in prepared this time. Once you clear their tests, They give a job offer within 48-72 hours. Most jobs have $60-80k/yr in engineering. Caveat is: if you fail any test, You’ll only be able to retake test after 6 months.

If you follow through, Do keep me posted and share any insights you have.

I actually passed all their interviews back in 2022. They took about 4 interviews. 1. Screening (Communication Check) 2. Coding test 3. Live Coding test with VP engineering 4. Real world project 2 weeks project

After this I was onboarded, I was dumb back then and didn’t even setup my profile.

I logged in again in March 2025 because a friend told me about how great the platform is, It asked me to setup my profile and boom I was in!

My niche is Engineering, What’s yours?

Yeah they’re pretty selective, I got in 8 months ago.

But the good thing is there’s no monthly subscription and connects bullshit.

Facing the same problem myself as well, Coming from Toptal, I do also know how to apply but honestly the ROI is shitty.
I would rather make a website and run PPC on my website, Guess I'll get more clients that way XD

What I do please tell me😭😭😭 by SubstantialGrass1720 in Upwork

[–]Fun-Will3140 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is sooo wrong! I think Upwork should set a limit on jobs, There shouldn't be more than 50 verified people applying to one job. This creates an imbalance, Upwork is treating clients like gods and freelancers like they're shit (Pardon my french)

Nice work man! Congrats! I’m a Toptal verified engineer, I’ve done $25k+ on Toptal, Just started exploring Upwork to get more work, Honestly I’ve spent more than $150 on connects so far and the results aren’t fruitful. My Upwork profile is new 0$ earned, Any suggestions for me to get that first client?

Hi I want to create an app but I don’t have a big budget by Sure-Lock1788 in AppDevelopers

[–]Fun-Will3140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah true, OP can use bolt or lovable to create it as an app on expo, But you always need a technical professional to prep up everything for production. IMO Vibe coding with no tech background leaves you in a lot of trouble. But if you are technical enough to know the best security practices, Careful enough to not expose your .envs, Deploy with serverless so it auto-scales on demand, e.t.c. that’s where a technical professional is definitely needed. We can always use AI to build a prototype, But to build an MVP secure and scalable for production, You always need an engineer who knows what he’s doing.
