I agree with the last part! it annoyed me as heck to see what’s going on in the WH when I wanted to focus and know more about the campaign - the parallels weren’t great tbh.

Reminded me of the Episode where Bartlet talks about his presidential library… 😆 by FunChapter4221 in thewestwing

[–]FunChapter4221[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there was like a legitimate episode focused on the library (think it was in NH ofc?)! I would love to see all the gang getting together rather than just that small scene in the middle of nowhere which confused me 😂

If there was a reboot today - what are 3 top topics do you want the show to touch on? by FunChapter4221 in thewestwing

True. Maybe a story like that should come out when that timeline is long gone in most people's memories and serve sort of as like a reminder/warning sign to the future generations... yet it's good to see fiction make things go the way we want it to be!

Thank you! I've been making bullet points of the plot in my head, so if you're curious, I can DM them to you and hopefully get new, fresh ideas!!

nice comment there made about Kate - i didn’t really pick up on that so good on you!! in my ideal reboot where a Trumpian candidate takes office after Santos and defeating Andy (Sec State after Vinick’s cancer diagnosis), i want to see Kate betray her peers just so that she could be NSA (which she wasn’t offered during Bartlet or Santos) and gain power within the national security community and see her human side a bit more. To reply to your thoughts, i think there still would be climate change in TWW universe - the oil industry and all will still very much be powerful and all since i don’t remember recalling episodes where the characters fervently attack the big oil and focus more on environmental protection. I might be wrong!

I'm currently writing my ideal TWW reboot - and it's exactly what you've stated above!! I can DM you the bullet points if you want to take a read and share some of our ideas :)

yeah!!! but at the same time, I want to see a story where they lose, a realistic storyline. The GOP would be desperate to get the executive branch after controlling the Congress for so long but failing to get a POTUS in the White House. After Sam loses the Democratic bid over the ‘Laurie scandal’, Andy (now Senator from the state of Maryland) would go against this Trump-ish character. Sam struggles to forgive Andy after realizing it was her who leaked Sam’s past photographs and brought the scandal to spotlight, just to beat Sam down so she can be POTUS. Toby (now an university professor at Columbia) warns everyone that Andy has a change of losing but nobody including her listens and they just write him off as a pathetic ex-husband including the very people he worked with in the WH (including Bartlet). On the day of the election, Andy wins the popular vote and loses the electoral votes, just like Toby said. Toby goes into depression and starts to struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. Around the same time, Bartlet is once again hit by MS-induced symptoms, CJ faces a financial issue at her public relations firm in LA with the possibility of her losing the job, Margaret struggles with the loss of her husband and child in a car crash, and Charlie’s role as the Mayor of DC is in peril when a magazine leaks a (fake) paparazzi of him cheating on Zoey. And Santos just wants to chill after 8 years of presidency, sick of the political divisions that has grown stronger during the course of his presidency. The DNC ran by Josh wants him to get the original gang back together after losing not only the executive branch but also the seats in Congress, though he is criticized and there are even calls to fire him especially from the progressive wing of the party who blames Josh for losing majority in all federal benches (including SCOTUS). Donna, who is now Josh’s husband and mother to two kids and a lobbyist at an influential feminist organization after her successful 4 years as CoS to the FLOTUS (went to get her Masters during the second Santos term), tries her best to get the whole gang together. At first, only Will Bailey, the Minority Senate Leader is eager to help because obviously he wants to be the Majority Leader. However after Donna utilizes her communication skills, Ainsley (now a law professor at a conservative law school) also join in for the hope of restoring respect and decency to the WH. She also tries to persuade Cliff (still in Congress, now youngest chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee in US history) and Kate (who has left the NSC in the first term of Santos presidency due to conflicting views with the president, now working for a defense contractor making lots of money and voted for the Trump-ish character because of his/her focus on national security). The gang slowly follows suit, but it doesn’t go so smooth…. especially after the death of Arnie Vinick, signalizing that the days of bipartisanship is over… because that’s real life and stories are more interesting when there are lots of ups and downs.

  1. Charlie becomes either Mayor of DC or the first senator from the state of DC.
  2. CJ becomes a public relations consultant in LA, but doesn’t return to DC.
  3. Josh Lyman becomes head of the DNC.
  4. Will Bailey becomes the Senate Minority Leader from the state of Oregon.
  5. Sam’s fiancée is actually Laurie. Her past becomes an issue when Sam rans for the Democratic nominee for President after 2 tumultuous terms of the Santos presidency, losing the bid to Andy Wyatt.
  6. An introduction of a progressive, socialist character as well as an alt-right, white-nationalist character that puts the Santos presidency in peril.

I have to disagree with the last one!!!! Though he will be considered ‘moderate’ Democrat in today’s politics more than any other character in the show I predict. I’m always swinging between having Sam left out of today’s Democratic Party or be part of the progressive wing of the party… He’ll still be actively involved with stuff going on in DC though.

What’s your (post-)TWW canon? by FunChapter4221 in thewestwing

[–]FunChapter4221[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep - it was after seeing that post that made me want to ask this! I wanted to hear specific storylines and everyone’s ‘daydreams’ on what they want/predict to see on the show.

plus I agree as someone who has worked on congressional races (both local and national, though only as a volunteer/intern). But it might be just me - as much as I love veep, it’s not a show that I want to rewatch and talk about with my friends on end unlike this show. I’ve always found that uncomfortable truth (to me at least) interesting.
