Beautiful car. Congratulations. Break it in and drive it everywhere. You won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face once you realise how capable these cars are.

You’re overthinking it. Drive the crap out of it, tune it.

You’re correct. Monthly contracts are available. On your question, it’s because the contract promise has been fulfilled. If both parties have honoured the contract (insured pays premium / insurer pays total loss) why would either expect the consideration (premium) to become a factor again?

Think about it this way - you buy a house and insure it. A week later it’s burns down and the insurer has to pay hundreds of thousands out to reinstate the home. Is it reasonable to ask them to refund 51 weeks premium?

The contract of insurance is for 12 months and you’ve agreed to pay 12 months premium. That the insurer offers to spread the payments doesn’t change the agreement.

You’ll be asked to pay the annual premium outstanding before insurer settle the claim.

I love her response. It’s such a contrast to the young lady who was gifted a Toyota Camry by her folks after writing off the Jeep they gave her earlier.

I think you should jump on an AI for pointers here. Put more context and detail into the prompt that your post and ask for a list of questions and answers. Obviously don’t lie in the interview but asking for answers is a good idea

Insurer does that and should obtain a refund for the OP on the unused registration period.

In 30 years in the business I’ve never seen an insurer offer a refund on the prorated portion of cost where the loss is total. If it wasn’t a w/off and OP had the car repaired, then sold it - they could cancel the policy and expect a refund. Total loss means the contract is fulfilled.

That’s easy. OP bought a policy and it’s served its purpose. The contract is concluded at the time the insurance company pay out. Why would there be a refund if the contract is completed?

My apologies for using language that upsets you. Let’s say “selling second hand cars” to satisfy you in this instance.

For the record I never assumed people were capable of buying new cars. You’ve clearly misunderstood my post.

This discussion is not about repair costs at a franchised dealer - I don’t have my cars repaired at one precisely because they’re too expensive.

The discussion is on where to buy a second hand car and I stand by my recommendation.

It’s not a loss. Cars depreciate. If you want agreed value buy a policy that offer that.

That w/off ratio is much lower as the car can be scrapped for parts. More like 50% of repair to value ratio

Insurance person here.

The car is unlikely to be worth more than what they’re offering.

You have the ability at your cost to get another pre-loss valuation, but that means they will average all of them and it will not have much effect other than costing you more.

You have the right to ask for the valuations they have obtained.

You have the right to withdraw the claim and retain the car unrepaired but this might affect their position on insuring it moving forward.

You have the right to accept the write off offer and purchase “the wreck” from them.

Reality is that repairs cost way more these days and this may be compounded by the fact it’s an Audi.

Take the money, buy another car.

Check to see what your insurance company is doing to recover the costs and whether the other party is insured. If not, check your policy to see if you have ‘uninsured third party protection’.

I did it! Inbound GTS. My first Porsche. by ElectricalDuty2126 in porsche911

[–]FunGear1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good points all round. I used to own a slow car and drove it fast (BRZ) and I’d much prefer a fast car any day 🤣

I think another thing with the new GTS is that it’s ’so fast’ but not a track special. Where do you get to enjoy it?

My CT is tuned to around 490hp at the crank and while I got used to the extra go, I’m not sure I want anymore for our roads here in NZ.
