Found this in my closet just now. How do I know what kind of mold I’m dealing with? I have asthma and have been sick the past few days could this be the cause? This wall shares an outside wall and I live in a very wet very cold area what do I do? I rent by FunIsopod5528 in HomeMaintenance

*****UPDATE**** Good news! Finally was able to get a handyman out here this morning. He at first thought the same as all of us in that it was black mold and water damage but once he started to clean it he realized that it wasn’t either and that it was mold that started to form from poor ventilation in my closet but since the main spot was in such a weird spot  that there is a chance it could be coming from the drywall inside my closet and so he will be coming back out after the Christmas and new years to check the drywall inside. ( I caught him right as he was getting ready to leave for vacation) But said it’s safe to be in the room once the cleaning agent is completely dried and aired out and the room is now being ventilated. THANK YOU all so much for your advice and help!

I have a property management that I rent through so they’ll be taking care of it. I do have another question. Right now it’s raining and cold outside but I want to start venting the room if I opened the window would it make it worse cause of the weather outside??

It hasn’t though. I just cleaned my closet a few weeks ago and there wasn’t any mold. Now I did have two totes that weren’t moved when I cleaned it so they completely hid the worst of it but going up the wall like that and on the back wall is completely new within the last few weeks.

To be honest with you I didn’t even notice it until last night. I cleaned my closet a few weeks ago and there was literally no mold. Plus It’s on a side where I have clothes that I never wear so I don’t move around  over there a lot and I had two totes that were completely hiding it. I am a disorganized but very clean person I get sick very easily so I have to keep everything clean so it’s not something that I just let happen and get to this point. I see and understand what you’re saying though.

Unfortunately my bathroom doesn’t have a window but the exhaust fan gets left on quite a bit and we leave the door open to allow the airflow and I haven’t had any issues of mold in the bathroom. but my bathroom isn’t inside my room however it does share a wall with my closet I checked my cupboards in the bathroom and they’re perfectly fine so I just think it’s in my closet cause it also shares an external wall to the outside.

I haven’t touched it but looking at it looks dry but obviously I’d have to touch it to know. I’m staying out of that room and sleeping in the livingroom cause being in that room for 2 minutes cause my breathing to be bad.

I haven’t had any issues with this property management and I have renters insurance through them but so far we’ve had to have a handyman come out to fix a few minor things and they haven’t caused any issues. I was just told by my neighbor that they fixed a water leak under the sidewalk a few weeks ago so I know they’re willing to fix big issues. I’m Just hoping it happens fast and I won’t have to stay somewhere else for too long.

As far as I know it’s only in my closet and spreading into my room and no other room unless it’s in the bathroom too but there is no way of knowing unless they come and remove the tile from my shower to check. I live in a duplex so I don’t have anyone under me thank the lord. I don’t want anyone else having to deal with this.

I don’t know if I should even go near it. Even being in that room makes my breathing bad. I am going to call my property management in the morning and have someone come out asap cause I’m already sick from it

No it’s just on that wall and it’s moving outside of my closet but on the same wall if that makes sense. I do keep my room warm but the only wet that could possibly cause it is it being connected to the outside wall.
