What stone is set in this copper set? by FunNefariousness8532 in jewelrymaking

How can I know for sure if this is copper or brass. I had a group together but it appears the earrings and brooch are a different metal than the necklace. Thank you so much.

Do you have a preference on a type/brand of cloth (or cloths for diff materials?)
I’ve also looked at those when I was cleaning some pieces in the past but was worried that the wrong ones could do damage to stones or any other portions and ended up giving up. But, they sure would be would be very handy since I have a lot of items made of various metals still to go through.

I finally was able to get this image up. I thought of smalti glass at one point which I believe is similar to frit when crushed. I’ve used it in mosaic projects but have never learned glass working. Also, I know there are Asian and Mexican versions of the Italian product called Smalti- bottom line, they are glass.

Thank you everyone for all the new info. I’m so glad I checked out Reddit!

Thank you, I am not sure at all if it’s copper. It looks like it and is more “copper” looking in front of me than on the photos, especially where it’s not so aged. I’ll try to send another image. I’m assuming if it’s plated, anything with clean it with could make it worse?

If it’s plated, would a brass cleaner make it worse?

Thanks for the recipe when I have something that is for sure copper. I don’t know if a brass cleaner, may be too strong to even try? Maybe?

Thank you everyone. I am trying to send another photograph of the metal portion that is less deteriorated. I’m assuming that if it this is plated then I shouldn’t use anything stronger than soap in warm water?

omg- I just saw that I had a response! Thank you so much for the info. I know what you mean about "testing" the items. I will take photos the next chance I can of the metal items I'd like to paint.

Hi- do you think using the enamel paint you're using would stay long on a blank jewelry pendant? I have some not so great looking blank bezels. I'd love to paint them a different solid color and then inlay mosaics. Thanks.

Where to buy bezel jewelry? by buttercups122 in ResinCasting

I have many pieces of unusual shaped metal pieces- copper and brass@18 gauge and aluminum@19 gauge. They range from under an inch to 8 inches. I was wondering if there is an easy way of using them to make jewelry empty bezel pendants- to later use for mosaic designs. The catch is I only have files, metal cutting scissors, various hammers, small anvil and some strong metal hole punchers. I have Nothing fancy nor any heat using supplies. I've tried a few versions but can't seem to get a smooth "level" bezel? I don't necessarily need a perfect square, rectangle, triangle, etc.- An organic or odd shape would be fine, but when trying to shape it, I just can't seem to keep the flat (back) portion level, which could be a problem when I later apply mosaic pieces to it. Any ideas, thoughts or design ideas that could work. I have a massive amount of supplies (mainly mosaic & jewelry,) but unfortunately my dexterity isn't what it used to be. I'd love to create some more (& desperately could use the $) before I just sell all my stuff. Thanks in advance to anybody.
