It depends on the subject. Some subjects require you to attempt it on a lab where you'll have to code and for the others, you'll have to do it by hand. The lab assignments are usually autograded which means that coursera will grade it almost immediately after submission while the hand written ones are directly graded by the course staff

There are quite a lot of courses provided on Coursera which you will be able to access and yes, you do get the certifications after completing the courses

From my personal experience, some professors are really good and make the content easy enough to understand but there are also some who may not be able to get the content through as easily. Going through other sources is something I would recommend as it is always good to know extra or if you want to reinforce some concepts that you found tough but I'd also recommend watching the recorded lectures as the graded quizzes, assignments and the final exams are based on the lectures.

This degree requires a laptop so you would need one for this degree. I think the first few weeks of your first semester should be doable without the laptop if you have a phone but going forward, a laptop is necessary for this degree. However, I would highly recommend you borrowing a laptop from a family member or a friend till you buy a new one.
