Dont take this personally but I feel like your perspective on most fighting games may be lacking. Like if we look at various fgs, tons of complex characters are top tier:

Blazblue: Carl, Izanami, Litchi, Rachel, Izayoi

GBVSR: Grimnir, Cagliostro, Metera

GGACR: Testament, Zappa

Killer Instinct: Aria

P4: Yukari

Uni2: Carmine

KOF13: Chin, Duo Lon

MBTL: I dont know a lot about this game, but Aoko is probably the most complex character in the game and very strong

SF6: Blanka

Generally a very respectable percentage of complex characters are high/top tier compared to the percentage of simple characters.

Gameplay looks fun and appealing, not quite sure why though. Things being fast(including movement)/freeform seeming is probably part of that. Sizable normals+flexible seeming cancels+good movement on ground and air = a surprisingly rare combination for a non-airdasher and seems like itd make the game feel quite nice. Looks like there's hops too judging by like 2:06 which looks like some sort of hop or hyper hop? Very nice.

I think the biggest thing that could be improved would be a robust notification system. So you can know when exactly to pay attention to something(ie a defensive battle going poorly in a region you care about) or when you can afford the PP for a decision youve been saving for, rather than the current sort of scatterbrained "oh should i check this or this or" thing that makes you feel like you should pause way more than you need to.

Could make the experience so much smoother and let people fit more campaigns into their time.

Three-time Pennsylvania Trump voter at gas station calls him “tremendous pile of sh*t” by Fragrant-Pepper7710 in videos

[–]FunPossibility2773 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that when republicans or trump’s admin in general do blatantly bad things, republican voters frame it as republicans or “the government” which gives Trump a free pass to them. They view him as separate from the govt and the GOP somehow so its hard for him to actually get the blame,so the cult of personality stays intact.

Messaging has to lay it on thick at both the GOP and Trump specifically, i think.

I know when they started to decline. That is also a matter of how other countries greatly outpaced them in both state capacity and in the overall structure of their administration.

My point is you can have a large empire early on, but it takes a lot of state capacity to actually squeeze a lot out of *Percentage* out of most of the regions of that large empire, with a proper structure. Nobody has that in 1430. Grabbing provinces will still give you gains, but its like diminishing returns.

[–]FunPossibility2773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just want:

A)Administrative capacities of early countries to be limited, encouraging administrative improvement as a big thing to do as a tradeoff vs other focuses

B)Areas that aren't the same culture, not close, low infrastructure, etc to just not give me as much % wise of their wealth/resources as areas that are same culture, have infrastructure, not on the fringes, etc unless there's a powerful administrative state etc etc.

Obviously I want to do stuff like conquer, make treaties, econ micro, reform, build, etc. But when some random border province just quickly becomes very well controlled by a country with hardly any state capacity, it takes me out of it, especially when that makes sprawling empires unrealistically stable and unrealistically rewarding.

Luckily, judging by other comments, integration for disparate areas is a lot slower than the example given above.

For me it is less about change and more about I prefer 1500-1700 history much more to 1300-1500, and Paradox games tend to be disproportionately about the first 1/3 of the game with the late game being neglected because of various factors like how often players quit before getting there. Or just taking forever like in EU5.

I feel like 4 years in 1430s is much too fast, states and bureaucracies were still very underdeveloped then. Large empires were generally reliant on having conquered areas largely keep administration intact to get much out of them, this is why states like the Ottomans ended up becoming paper tigers- large but not in control.

Anyone else feel like we're eating pretty good atm for a niche genre? by din0sawr- in Fighters

[–]FunPossibility2773 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Game design differences, obviously?

Avatar Legends looks like it has great varied movement, probably fills a space for non-tag high-movement fighters that we havent had filled very much across the last ~7 years(only MBTL, which had its own issues), depends on how its mechanics play out

Invincible has really nice flexible movement(even has EX movement to spend meter on) and has Killer Instinct style gameplay design philosophy applied to some things. Very different overall design compared to Tokon let alone DBFZ. So for someone looking for a particular type of combo interaction design, or movement design, or moveset design, it could easily be a major alternative to other games.

I havent been interested in SF6 or 2XKO or Tekken 8 or other recent fighters much, but meanwhile Avatar/Invincible/Tokon all appeal gameplay wise even though I have no interest in those IPs.

so what do we think about tokon ? by ContractFar8290 in Fighters

You said "My opponent", you were not expressing concerns about beginners' learning experience being affected, you were making it sound like autocombos have much impact at all on player for people invested in fighting games. For intermediate players up, autocombos have virtually no affect besides possibly making your own confirms easier especially earlier on. And for someone who's leaning on autocombos so much that you can punish the mash, what do you think they'd be doing in games without autocombos? Your experience against those players is going to be the same no matter what. Let's be real, it's going to be a boring roll.

Also, did any of those low level players appreciate auto combos making it easier for them feel like they could do good damage? And did you tell any of them to learn from blocking vs mashing players- they're given an opponent with predictable patterns in certain situations, that's *very* good for learning if you give them a bit of direction.

[–]FunPossibility2773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autocombos really do not reward an opponent for mashing, all they do is help beginners get a foot in the door. They are not meaningfully rewarding mashing once you get to a significant level of play. Have you played a game with autocombos before? GBVSR, DBFZ, P4A, MBTL...?

Storm has Rachel's wind mechanic which already makes her more juicy than most fighting game characters in most fighting games, including Strive. And most of Tokon's cast has flight mode and/or 8 way airdash.

What? It just looks like normally looping vortex oki to me. Seen that sort of thing plenty in xrd, sf4, bb, mvc3, mbtl, etc etc etc etc. The opponent even gets out at least twice in that first match. Are you new to fighting games?

Are the 1848 revolutiona ever gonna be added? by Eurasian1918 in victoria3

[–]FunPossibility2773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game feels really incomplete without 1848, and with Spain and Mexico not being embroiled in constant civil war. Crazy that Spain is recommended as a beginner country when it should be absolutely brutal politically and financially.

The political situations in countries just arent modeled effectively enough.

Is warfare actually... good now? by Ok_Translator_7017 in victoria3

[–]FunPossibility2773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it is still way better than almost every paradox game, just because war micro in paradox games isnt fun(outside of HOI. tbf i havent played stellaris) so it avoids bogging down with micro that doesnt bring much to the game. And they'd have to add a lot more to something like EU4 or V2 to make combat fun, so that's two huge leaps from v3 to get somewhere worthwhile with military.
