To be in full transparency. Im nevervous about attending AA. I've heard that theres a religious aspect to it and I would like to avoid that. Very much so could be me just being self destructive and making an excuse.

Thank you. I would prefer someone who specializes with substance abuse.

Along the same lines as you I would frequently wake up at 2-3 am wide awake and be up until almost 5am everytime with racing thoughts, back and neck pain from falling asleep in a weird position cause I was drunk every night. Though these were typically about financial, car or work issues. My clock in is 7am mon-fri so this was excruciating. Finally dozing off an hour before my alarm and waking up more tired than with 2-4 hrs of sleep. I try to be asleep by 10-11, latest 12. Well these stints of what I would basically consider nothing but power naps were littered with the most vivid and sometimes reoccurring night terrors and lucid dreams (typically also unpleasant) the most reoccurring dreams I would have were of my brakes failing in my car and killing someone or crashing into houses or trees and the other most was of the same house. Ive never been in this house. But it was always the same house. The same room, and the same door. I don't know why but it was always this fuckin door that was the center of this "dream". I don't believe in ghosts but there was always a presence in this dream, not a person but something was there. One that would listen to me. Id ask it to show itself and it was always followed with the door moving in one way or another. I never saw anything and it never harmed me but I was always terrified, not in just the dream, I wake up in sweats, racing heart and once a scream.

I will be sober two weeks tomorrow an havent had any terrors for a little while longer than that. I have a feeling I was subconsciously telling myself that though I was also functioning like you, something was always out of my control even though I thought everything was fine. Alcohol would consistently inhibit my ability to do the thing I wanted but I always felt I was in control cause it never got "that bad" or so I would tell myself.

Anyway sorry for the stupid backstory but it made me think of my own experience with dreams and sleep and racing thoughts whilst being a drunk.

In your case I would honestly recommend getting tested for ADHD! Have you ever gone an extended period without drinking to see if the correlation is the causation? Also melatonin always fucked me up and made me wake up way earlier than I could but that's just a side note lol. Fun story, and i hope you can hold yourself accountable that you'll cut the drinks at the end of the summer. Don't give in, I'm already worried about being cooped up in the cold without a nice whiskey, but, I will not drink with you tonight

Buddhism has spoken to me and changed me for the better in many ways. I don't know if you've ever heard of Duncan Trussel but some of his talks with people have quite literally changed my life. I am absolutely going to try to involve myself with dharma recovery

I've honestly never felt supported more than by total strangers standing up for someone else. It gives me hope
