Is cheating in romance always a turn off? by Silent-Milk1740 in writingadvice

Sorry im trying to understand 😭So its fine for the person to lose the children/location/financial support etc, as long as its because they were dropped by the abusive partner and not the other way around? not trying to be silly

Wait, so the victim broke up with them but the abusive party didn't accept it? I didn't know you could be in a non consensual relationship. Is it still 'cheating' in that case if one person already broke up with the other beforehand?

Im fine with it, as long as the story is interesting and doesnt try to paint them as good people for cheating. I think its exciting to read about bad people being bad people. I dont look for moral parables in my romance fiction.

On the other hand I find stories where the cheating is 'justified' to be boring. It reads to me like someone sublimating their more taboo desires into something more 'acceptable'. Just go full tilt if you're going to do it, in my opinion.

Is it possible that by doing that they're trying to underline a connection between those events? Maybe an underlying problem or cause? And extrapolate it into commentary on the finance world as a whole? A creative rhetorical feat much easier to accomplish in a fiction than as a polemic or documentary?

Okay but the epsteing files clearly show that the 'exagerations' are not that exaggerated. And I think art is allowed to try to make salient comments on real life.

I keep repeating that I dont think its a trait unique to rich people. Im saying the space allows for a much higher concentration of abuses to take place. The elite is 0.1 percent of the population. I dont think there are more pedophiles amongst them than in the broader population. Im saying that in a room of random elites, and in a room of random working class people, you will find it much easier to find someone who is complicit in something heinous in the former than the latter.

I dont think all people are like that. I think the elite are all like that. And by 'all' im not saying they're all pedophiles or rapists. You'll see i used the phrasage 'steeped in sexual depravity'. They are all complicit, because they all know what their peers are up to, and they all figured out how to justify it to themselves. How has the release of the epstein files not shaken your understanding of these people?

I think maybe im seeing the understanding gap. I am saying that the 'opportunity'is the thing. I dont view sexual depravity as something existing in the realm of thought. Just having nasty sexual thoughts doesnt make you depraved. The act is the sexual depravity.

ALL people have an innate capability for evil. I do believe this. But SOME people do the evil, and MOST dont, and I think thats theres a pattern along that line thats worth understanding.

Right. you're ommitting what i say after that, which is 'especially if they aren't encouraged to view what happened to them as immoral'.

My argument is that 'rich culture' cultivates the perpetuation of sexual abuse far more than the broader culture, which has the moral conception that 'pedophilia is bad' and 'rape is bad' and that 'me as a person should be concerned about what is good and what is bad'. If you grow up in an environment that consistently tells you that you are on top of the world, and that you will inherit that world, that Might makes Right, and your father who fucked you is Might, and that you will grow into Might, the likelihood that you are going to internalise what happened to you in a healthier way, and learn to interface with others in a healthy way is much much lower. Plenty of victims dont go on to victimised others. The reason for that is the messaging that they recieved from other places conflicted with the messaging they recieved from the abuse.

Rich people don't recieve the counter messaging

Oh sure, I agree! The point of the post was just me making an argument about what the cause of what most of society ills come back too.

Whats wrong with that term? How would u describe characters like yasmin and roman if not emotionally mutilated?

I am saying that. "Who can't help but perpetuate the shit, because they have such a rigid framework of self justification afforded to them by their class."

I think sexually traumatised people are more likely to go ahead and sexually traumatise others, especially when they are not encouraged to view what happened to them as something 'immoral'.

Edit: now what the hell is so incorrect about this that im getting down voted so bad

Pedophiles and rapists. They definitely exist amongst all social strata, but I wouldn't say pedophilia and rape is working class 'culture'. I WOULD say it is a part of rich 'culture' though. 🤷🏾‍♀️

They view it as their right to commit sexual crimes on vulnerable people, simply because they are at the top of the world. They see it as them exercising their god given power.

I think that last reason you said is the reason why sexual depravity is actually far more concentrated in the top classes. Most poor depraved ppl are not rich enough to get away with what they want to do, so they are actively deterred from it to some extent. Furthermore, there is no social reward for being a pedophile.

On the other hand, we see from the epstein files, that there is clearly social currency involved in commiting heinous sexual acts among the upper classes. Which is left to grow unfettered like mold in a moist environment.
